As for Charlie Kirk. I have for a long time seen clips of him, hated his snearing condascending style and a lot of his views but nobody deserves to be shot for speaking. This is becoming a worrying trend now in America, polarised politics resulting in a disconnected society and people who dont see those on the other side as worthy of being alive. And now we have the president fanning the flames rather than de-escalating.

It’s only three months ago that a Democrat politician and her husband were shot with their “crime” being nothing more than supporting a different political party to the murderer. We can’t say that the same type of thinking definitely did for Charlie Kirk yet, but no one will be surprised if it turns out that way.

I’ve always been absolutely incredulous at the pro gun lobby in America because I see no merit in their argument whatsoever and so cannot begin to comprehend the mind set which produced yesterday’s killing and the one in Minnesota in June.

One of the differences between now and the rest of my time in politics is that you have so many “culture warriors” on both sides who are so quick to take to social media to post stuff that only further inflames the situation - this man, for example, has no credibility when it comes to what happened yesterday.

Well said Bob. This is a problem across the spectrum and is a result of a culture that does not promote or tolerate a diversity of views and a society that increasingly separated us into different spaces and silos.

What I hate so much about this is that whether you agree with him or not (and I agreed on some things and disagreed on some things) the way he travelled around taking questions from anyone and answering in a civil manner is exactly what we need more of.

The absolute cowardice of killing someone because you disagree with them and have dehumanised them. The political discourse simply cannot carry on like this, it's gotten so much worse in my lifetime.
