they should impose massive punitive fines for the illegal dumping of sewage into the rivers and for the amount of water leaking out of our system, and if the water companies can't pay them they should be taken over by the government
The only snag with that is water companies could simply let their pipe networks rot to buggery and let the taxpayer foot the bill.

One day we might live in a country where big companies, not just water providers, look to do things properly with greater importance than making massive profits.

Use the extra revenue to stop emptying sewage into the Sea, there needs to be massive fines for that immediately!
We are massively increasing our population through mass immigration which is putting pressure on all our utilities, including water.

hosepipe bans only save a fraction of the water that water companies lose to leaks.
And we are all shareholders thhrough our pensions so it's a good efficient system no?

Net immigration to the U.K. is only around 200,000 per year, that isn’t mass migration.

U.K. population growth has been around 0.3-0.4% for the last 10 years.

If that small a number put pressure on a country’s utilities it would be beyond ****ed.

I'd have to respectfully disagree with you there. It is mass immigration. It's more than 200.000 but let's use that figure. 1 million extra people every 5 years on the most densely populated country in Europe. And you say this will have little affect on utilities? Wow

Is there any point to your post other than to argue for the sake of it? The point is, we are a very over crowded island.

We aren’t one of the most densely populated countries in Europe for a start.

Secondly our population is pretty flat without migration and a 0.3-0.4% increase in population per year is nothing and if a country’s infrastructure isn’t up to it there is a much deeper problem than population.

Thirdly our population growth is slowing and is expected to even slower, with an ageing population we are going to end up bollocksed and should see migration as a positive, especially as the bull of our migration has always been a net positive for taxation.

I get it you hate migration but it isn’t the cause here.

I've just checked. We are the 4th most densely populated country in Europe.

I don't think adding city the size of Cardiff each year is nothing. Not on the 4th most densely populated country in Europe. The yearly figure is closer to 300.000 net. We are talking many millions per decade. I think that's a lot and too much leading to pressure on utilities. We'll have to respectfully agree to disagree on this one.
