Re: The New Iron Lady
YouGov poll for The Times this afternoon: Labour 54%, Tories 21%.
The pound may be busy retreating (is it?) but so are Tory voters. Unlike the last YouGov poll that gave Labour a 17% lead, where the Tory losses mostly went to 'don't know', with this one half the Tory switchers have ticked Labour.
Much as I despise Starmer and his clique, they are being handed this on a plate by the 'government'. I suppose that means Starmer will be better at The Great Reset than Truss? Confusing this masterplan!

With the prospect of full on bloodletting next week in Birmingham I can already hear "things can only get better" ringing in my years.Originally posted by jon1959 View PostYouGov poll for The Times this afternoon: Labour 54%, Tories 21%.

Still too early to be complacent, the next election is probably two years away and an aeon in politics. However, it takes a lot of imagination to work out how the Tories can get themselves back in shape any time soon.

Re: The New Iron Lady
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a UK poll lead that big. As Dorcus says, a lot can change in two years, but, with Labour having enjoyed an almost uniquely stress free conference while the new PM is making Johnson look like a political genius, this is beginning to have the look of another 1997.

Re: The New Iron Lady
As much as I’d love the Tories to only get 3 seats it shows how ****ed our political system is that 21% of the votes gets 0.5% of the seats.
Same with UKIP in 2015 only getting 1 seat after winning 12% of the votes.
Labour needs to back Proportional Representation to end the 2 party race if we want this country to start advancing at anything more than a snails pace.

Re: The New Iron Lady
It’s not going to happen is it, but I agree with you. While I’d love to see the Conservatives with only three seats, no party getting twenty one per cent should have such a small representation and, if Labour were to end with well over five hundred seats on just over half of the vote should be the signal for a concerted drive to get a more representative system adopted.Originally posted by Canton Kev View PostAs much as I’d love the Tories to only get 3 seats it shows how ****ed our political system is that 21% of the votes gets 0.5% of the seats.
