Re: Wigan points deduction confirmed
What sanctions are magically going to be applied against the owners and directors? I don't know. But what I do know is the only people who get punished in cases like these are the fans and the playing staff. And clearly points deductions (or the threat of) don't work. Both Wigan and Reading are proof of that.Originally posted by logic View PostLogic dictates I'm not going to answer your question.
The rules surrounding professional football finances in this country are rotten from the top of the game to the bottom. These sanctions against clubs that are already knackered don't make a scrap of difference to that situation. They just devalue the division every year.

They've won seven games all season. The only team they've beaten since the World Cup is Huddersfield. I don't think they've got a hope in hell of winning five from eight.Originally posted by the other bob wilson View PostTheir manager has got something about him and they got a good point on Saturday. If they could get a fortress mentality about them, it might not be over for them - I think it’s reasonable to assume that least one of the bottom three are going to have a good run to finish their season - they win five games and they’ve got a chance.

Re: Wigan points deduction confirmed
The point is that Wigan did this three times earlier this season as well and were told that unless they followed a set of strict regulations they would be deducted points and sanctioned. They agreed to this. It is therefore totally correct that having failed to pay their players again now the sanctions are fully implemented. It sounds as if there will be further deductions if they keep doing the same thing before the season ends.Originally posted by Rjk View Postthe farce is a club making a bunch of signings in January and then 2 months later they can't pay their wage bill

The only way you could punish owners but not fans or players would be to include a clause in contract with league that stated that in event of any administration ownership of club would pass to league/fans or some other entity so directors/owners lose but fans don’t.Originally posted by logic View PostWigan entered into agreements with the league about honouring contracts, ringfencing money going forward.
Wigan have shit all over that.
What sanctions are magically going to be applied against the owners and directors then?
Wigan were rightly deducted points. If not, what on earth is the point? Owners, directors take the piss by for example making illegal payments to players, gaining an advantage over other clubs, and there should be no points deductions?

Ownership passing to league - league can't run a club for glaringly obvious reasons. They'd have to sell - where would the money go? Fans? Yeah, there's a lengthy history of well run fans teams.Originally posted by cityhammer View PostThe only way you could punish owners but not fans or players would be to include a clause in contract with league that stated that in event of any administration ownership of club would pass to league/fans or some other entity so directors/owners lose but fans don’t.
The idea completely shit over the law so will never happen.

Re: Wigan points deduction confirmed
You cant pass ownership of a club to a group of people who have no money to run it. How can the league run a club whilst it is engaged in a competition that is owned and administered by the same league ?Originally posted by cityhammer View PostThe only way you could punish owners but not fans or players would be to include a clause in contract with league that stated that in event of any administration ownership of club would pass to league/fans or some other entity so directors/owners lose but fans don’t.

Re: Wigan points deduction confirmed
The only way to punish clubs it points deductions / relegations, yes it punishes the fans, but thats just the way it is, A fine will do nothing as it'll just get added to the mounting debt / be paid off by some rich owner
