I just think it's funny that as the weather cost England this time the test rule book should be re-written.

Yeah but we are the much better side.

We could have won the first two and won the series after three games if....

If the Aussies didn't bowl so many no balls....

If the weather...

I dont think anyone is saying this as the Ashes are gone.

Test Cricket is in trouble and this has been a superb series between 2 really good sides and we should have been going to the final test at 2-2.

What we have got is a great game ruined by the weather and people looking for answers so there is a solution.

Both sides bowled no balls nobody saying it was just Australia. Again its something that needs to stop as people are paying a lot of money and they are not getting the overs in.

England could have won the 1st two tests. They didnt. Australia edged them. England edged the 3rd and England have dominated the 4th and just have a draw to show for it.

Thats the reality but it would have given Test Cricket a huge boost if the Ashes were on the line at the oval.

I think things like a back up day for every test match is unfeasible - yes for things like the World Final we had earlier in the season,but not for all test matches.

On the other hand, I can’t see any problem in insisting that the full allocation of overs are bowled every day if the weather allows and cricket should move away from a situation where everyone goes home or back to hotels at 6.30 despite there being bright sunshine as has happened toooften in this series - things like that do the game no favours and makes it that much harder to retain any new fans attracted by the excitement of the Ashes battle.

None of that can be construed as sour grapes because Australia have retained the Ashes,it’s about people getting the full days play that they paid for.

Perhaps too much emphasis is being made of "The Ashes"?

Let's just call the series a draw if England win at the Oval and not mention the Ashes at all.

Let's have a contingency day for bad weather.
Lets play til 10pm.

Might as well have rolling subs.

Why not lets have yet another form of cricket, "the Six dayer"

Could it be that there is too much tinkering with the game of cricket, like say hmmmm...i dunno....football?

Far too much rhetoric and propaganda on Sky.

Even if they smash England at the Oval there will be loads of, ahem, spin put on it.

Great post mate. As a very, very casual viewer of cricket I’ve throughly enjoyed the series and found myself fully captivated. I was gutted the way the 4th test and ultimately the chance to win the Ashes finished.

Well said. Also, any rule changes will help Australia in the future. It will rain when they're going to win. It is nailed on.

Players like Josh Tongue, Zak Crawley and Moeen Ali are being picked despite their performances in county cricket — not because of them.

Green-tinged county wickets, and the dearth of matches during the prime summer months, mean that there is seldom much need for high pace or spin bowling in the Championship; nagging right-arm seam bowling will generally suffice. Unsurprisingly, England perform strikingly better when conditions offer more lateral movement

probably correct not many (if any)of the test team turn out for there county team, often years ago selection seemed to be more with the home counties and bigger counties now it sems to be bens mates team,all this rubbish cricket like the hundred played in the middle of summer doesnt help either

I used to love it when a Glammy player got selected for England, not nowadays (not that anyone is remotely challenging mind you).

Nothing changes, you mention "Ben's mates" the England setup has always been the same, very cliquey.

Final test starts this morning with another miserable forecast - first two days should be okay, then two days where there’s every chance of disruption and a potential wash out on the final day. We then have the complete comedown of the Hundred and the50 over competition for reserve teams before a few four day games in September - no test cricket after July is a shocker of a decision from an organisation that specialises in them.

I used to love it when a Glammy player got selected for England, not nowadays (not that anyone is remotely challenging mind you).

Nothing changes, you mention "Ben's mates" the England setup has always been the same, very cliquey.

I wouldn’t say that at all. Stone , Archer and Leach are injured otherwise Wood would have not played this series and you definitely wouldn’t have had a player from Worcestershire being selected. Tongue was very much unknown prior to the start of the summer.

That said test captains are part of the selection panel.
