I think not showing up in big games (finals etc) is not the same as being a flat track bully. Kane will score against any team, but he probably needs to prove he's a big game player.
    Good post.

I'm not an expert at all but I guess if there was a list of Premier League greats then Kane and Gerrard would be close to each other in the top 10 somewhere but you won't get much joy if you google 'Steven Gerrard flat-track bully', even though Kane has had far more impact at international level. A couple of cup finals and knock-out nights mean that Gerrard never gets questioned in that regard.

Kane could do with a couple of similar stand-out matches to silence the doubters and maybe 'prove' his character but I don't think it's the be all and end all, his record speaks for itself for me. It's just the way it works out sometimes. We had a thread on here a while back trying to come up with the 'big' goals Earnie scored for us. I'm not sure anyone did after, doesn't lessen his achievements or the respect we've got for him though.

I just googled 'Blancmange Asteroid' and 228,000 references came up.

Kane is a proven goal scorer for club and country.

I think it’s a form of mental illness. Folk opening threads on topics that they clearly aren’t keen on, then posting in the thread that they don’t like the topic.
          Strange behaviour.

I always thought he got called a ‘flat track bully’ for scoring the majority of his goals for England against lower ranked teams. I think he’s probably got less than 10 against top ranked teams yet he’s heralded as their greatest goal scorer

                  Re: Harry Kane

If you take out penalties, Kane is 6th in the England top scorer list. He's scored 59 and 20 have been penalties, which would put him behind Michael Owen on 40 non-penalty goals. Rooney is top with 46, and Platt is level with Shearer. A third of Kane's England goals are penalties!

It might sound like digging around for ways to put him down, but there are a lot more penalties nowadays. Lineker was England's designated penalty taker from 1985, but he didn't actually take one until the Cameroon game in Italia 90 (weirdly enough, of the four he scored for England, three were against Cameroon).

Another fairly dull fact - 4% of all penalties ever taken in the world cup (exc shootouts) were by either Messi or Kane.

Interesting notion. If we include Croatia, Kane has 9 goals against teams that could be considered front rank. Rooney, by comparison, had 8 goals against similar opponents (3 against Croatia to Kane’s 1). So if Kane is considered a flat track bully, was Rooney also?

So setting the bar so high what do we make of that Gareth Bale character.
Won nothing at Spurs and goes to Real Madrid to be a flat track bully but even then is on the bench half the time.
Goes to the World Cup and does nothing.
Yet strangley is accorded messiah status.

Not sure if this is sarcasm that has gone whoosh over my head or a fishing attempt... but other than scoring the goals that took a small nation to their first Euros and World Cup in 50+ years (getting to the semis in the first one) and scoring 3 Champions League final goals including 2 winners and a Copa del Rey winner (and throw in a MLS championship winner in the short time he was there while you are at it), you are 100% right, Gareth Bale has done surprisingly little in big games in his career

It's sarcasm to highlight the absurd downgrading of Kane, by some on here, as a failure on the basis has won nothing at Spurs and any trophies at a giant of the European game can be disregarded as they win stuff all the time..
Apply that dodgy metric to Bale then !!!!

I think there's only one definition of a flat-track bully, and I totally understand your point here, but while it's pretty much accepted that cricketers like Hick and Ramprakash underachieved at the big moments I don't think it can be applied to Kane in the same way. Wasn't he barely fit in that Champions League final, for example? As you say, being at Spurs didn't exactly help to fill his trophy cabinet.

Saying that, Kane is the only footballer I can think of to have been labelled a flat-track bully so often and it's surprising he hasn't been able to quite shake it off despite his relentless goal-scoring at both club and international level. Still time for him to do that though, of course.
I can remember hearing the same thrown at Henry on numerous occasions. Which I always thought was pretty ridiculous.

Can also remember a lot in the media making a big fuss of the fact it took Messi a good few games to score against English teams. Easier to score in Spain blah blah blah

Wouldn't be a bad front 3 of flat track bullies to be fair. Kane, with Messi off the right and Henry off the left !
