Yes, makes no sense bringing in an older but more injury prone player who is probably on much higher wages than a young promising and still developing player.

However maybe we have to sell somebody, anybody , to keep in line with FFP for all these higher wages we are reportedly paying and he’s the only one in our squad we can get any sort of money for

      Re: Mark McGuinness

Thought it was a shame we sent him to Sheffield Wednesday on loan.
On a wider point, it makes me wonder whether we have had a recent tendency to loan out the wrong players? I hoped Joel Colwill would see plenty of first team action this season.

The manger stated in the summer that significant offers were coming in for our players , so it’s pretty clear that the new signings were going to be financed by the club selling players in the window.

Adam’s sale was hardly a surprise, neither is McGuinness. £10m is a fairly decent fee for him and the money has already been invested in the team with two or three new players imminent.

Ramsey looks very slow and as others have mentioned, you will be lucky to get 15 games out of him.

Nope. I wouldn't trust this lot with anything. Except finding a way to **** it up. In that respect, I trust them completely.

TBH McGuinness loan to Sheffield Weds was a very good move by CCFC. He came back a much better confidendent player. I hope the same happens with Joel Colwill to

I was just going to post the same. We have a decent record of turning good players into average ones. There's no doubt McGuinness was a better player on his return.

Good point. I wonder if we had only given Rubin Colwill a season loan when he was younger? I still remember that goal at Anfield in the FA Cup and thinking he is going to be some player, but he is still flaterring to deceive.

Will be sad to see McGuinness go, but the merits of this sale depend on how the money is spent. He clearly is better than Goutas and it is too early to make a judgement on Chambers and Daland. At least Daland is the right profile of player we should be signing, he will retain value.

                    Assuming he's any good.

Which is a concern as he’s coming from the Belgian league which doesn’t appear to be a great standard. I mean Kanga scored 12 goals in it last season!

if this deal is anything like the amount reported then presumably this would be by far the most we've added to the value of a player - which has to be considered a step in the right direction

Shame we've not really made this kind of signing since McGuinness really

same window we signed Wintle, who was young enough and with a decent chance of improving, which will play out too if we get a couple of million for him.
then the following year we signed Etete and Tanner.
you could argue that Etete is a pretty similar signing to the McGuiness one- yes it hasn't worked out to the same result, but if it was that easy to buy a player for a few hundred k and flip them for £10 million then everyone would be doing it.
if somehow he scores 10-15 goals this season then he's probably gone for a similar amount.
most of our other signings are frees or loans, so you don't have to worry about getting a return on the transfer fee invested (so you can consider older players).
exception is Turnbull who we apparently spent a couple of million on
