  • Robert Glatzel (again)

I see he's started well again this season - 5 goals in 5 starts.

He has now played 100 times for HSV and has scored 63 goals. Boy could we do with someone of that quality right now

I'd rather Mark Harris. Who often came on for Glatzel and immediately looked much better.

Both are obviously miles better than Kanga and Meite.

If he is so good, then why isn’t there a queue of clubs trying to sign him?

I have started watching German football on sky and there seems to be an unwritten rule that you have to go all out and attack, It is very entertaining. There needs to be a coefficient applied when comparing records as their football culture is different

Probably because he’s being very well paid at a huge club who get 57,000 crowds every week, so he’d be relatively expensive.

It didn’t work out for him here, although he did better than plenty of other strikers City have signed in recent times. His phenomenal scoring record at Hamburg can’t be an accident. He’s definitely one who got away.

He was injured at the start of the season but has since scored 6 goals in 4 (+2) appearances in all competitions.

Glatzel’s stats for Hamburg in all competitions are: 108 (+7) appearances, 75 goals. Quite a record.

I don't know how he plays for Hamburg, But while he was with us, everything he had played in to him was with his back to goal and with little support. It would be interesting to see how his Goals stack up in Germany, He's obviously good at some form of forward play. Mark Harris was getting plaudits recently for his little purple patch at this level, Glatzel is still looked at negatively on this board. I suppose it depends on where a player was born and whether or not they came through the youth system with some people.

So is Merthyrs striker and Eoin Doyle was as well.

Glatzel’s a technical player and we weren’t a technical team when he played for us. We’re trying to be one now and I think he’d be playing every week if he was with us now, although I fear his goals per game ratio would be nowhere near as impressive as it is for Hamburg - he’d be doing well to have 25 from 115 appearances if he had been playing for us.

I thought he looked decent whilst with us. As with most of our forwards in the last few years we didn’t give him enough decent service and support around him.

You say that and I really dont get it. I saw virtually all his home games and his 1st touch was abysmal.

The best quality he had was recovery from a really poor 1st touch.

Would I have him now in place of Kanga or Meite then yes obviously. Would I prefer Harris then yes.

If we were hoping to go up then neither.

That's a really shit comparison. No offence.

So you honestly think that Hamburg really can compete with the big clubs money wise…..? Just bizarre.

He just wasn’t good enough and people for some reason don’t want to admit it.

If he was he’d be playing for a wealthy English club willing to take a punt on him.

You DO know that they have quite elaborate scouting systems, don’t you? Lol

Then, maybe it was you who lauded Madine for his ‘assist’ :-)
