    Re: Robert Glatzel (again)

Glatzel has played five Bundelisga games so far this season. The crowds at those matches have been as follows:

    v Hannover (A) - 49,000
    v Preussen Mun (H) - 57,000
    v Regensburg (H) - 53,779
    v Kaiserslautern (A) - 49,327
    v SC Paderborn (H) - 57,000

The attendances in the German second tier have been phenomenal in recent seasons.

My recollection is different to yours. I remember wondering why he didn't finish so clinically more often. It seems he does in his homeland.
And did you get to the bottom of why? Not trying to be a smart arse, better goalkeepers, better defenders, less time, less chances.

As I said in an earlier post i think the German football fans' expectations are different from ours. The average goal in Bundesliga ii is 3.14 where the championship is 2.56. Its interesting do they get 20% more chances?

Better goalkeepers like Horvath and Allsop? Better defenders like Chambers and Simpson? I’ve never really understood why so many people who watch it regularly have such an elevated opinion of the Championship. It’s a competitive division alright and there can be plenty of excitement as a result, but as a rule the general quality of the football really isn’t that great.

As for Glatzel, there are no doubt a myriad of reasons why it didn’t work out for him here. He’s clearly much more at home (literally) in the German leagues, but that doesn’t mean to say he couldn’t score goals in the Championship. I’m 100% certain that he’s a better player than some of the strikers knocking around in this division at present, including at our club.

He’s 30 now and highly unlikely to move on from what is a massive club in his homeland who pay him very well and where he is a success. Good luck to him. He often looked downcast when things weren’t going his way here. Unlike some who have filled his position here since he left, he clearly cared about the game. I’m glad he hasn’t let his experiences here grind him down.

That's an interesting perspective - whether a player actually cares or not. I think you've got that spot on. I'm sure he wasn't happy that he didn't perform for us, and will be in his element now. Just a shame that he's playing for the perennial bottlers though :hehe: .

Such a shame that he was here during Covid, there were some good finishes in the clip a few posts up. A pity we didn’t really get to witness him as a ‘crowd’ too much.

                Today’s result:

                Fortuna Dusseldorf 0 Hamburg 3

Two more goals for Robert Glatzel. It’s now 8 goals in 5 (+2) appearances this season.

                    Re: Robert Glatzel (again)

Yep another 2 today against a Dusseldorf team who are still top of the league, no mugs.

Some interesting opinions on this thread. When I started it, it was the current side and style I was thinking of when I suggested we could do with him now. I can see how it wouldn't have worked in plenty of other City teams in recent years. However, I thought there were clear signs of improvement and adaptation during his spell here. I'd love him to have been given an extra season.
