Re: Relegation odds, will we go down?
Don’t underestimate how bad things are. We look poor on the pitch, the crowds are really starting to drop, there is literally no atmosphere at the games, the rot has well and truly set in. Things are slightly better away from home but that’s just a crumb of comfort. Yes I think we are finally going to go down.

Polite Query - Away from home we have played 10 and won 0 drawn 6 and lost 4. Scoring 8 goals and conceding 18. Securing 6 points from 30. How is this better than our home stuff?Originally posted by Vic Flange View PostDon’t underestimate how bad things are. Re: Relegation odds, will we go down?
Not being the end of the world isn’t something that fills me with hope. The thought of being back in the third tier in our situation playing the likes of Stevenage and Crawley in front of four figure crowds with just gallows humour to look forward to is just bleak.
Let’s face it we’re in decline and unless something is done to reverse it, the future is looking decidedly shit.

Recent away performances and results have been better than home ones though. I’ve been saying for two seasons that we’re going to go down if the attitude of the people at the top of the club doesn’t change, yet I have been hoping that we’d stay up this time because we’ve got it in us to play top half football, but I’ve changed my mind in the last four games.Originally posted by Vic Flange View PostI was referring to performances and atmosphere rather than results.
We’ve not played like a relegation side in our last two away games, yet we led in the 88th minute of both of them and still didn’t win either - that’s the sort of thing that happens to relegation sides. At home, it’s straightforward, we’ve not just looked like a relegation side, we’ve looked like a bottom of the table side. Add in that we’re getting so many injuries and that the owner of the club seems to believe an apprentice manager with a threadbare coaching staff can keep us up and I can’t put forward much of an argument for us avoiding the drop Im afraid.

id say Preston we looked bad - QPR was a terrible result but we weren't that bad - it happens.Originally posted by the other bob wilson View PostRecent away performances and results have been better than home ones though. they managed to score from an unlikely position and then got numbers behind the ball - if we replayed that match 10 times I think we would have won more than we lost.
I think it's entirely within our ability to stay up, and even go on a decent run.

Re: Relegation odds, will we go down?
This myth seems to have grown up that we played okay against QPR. For me, they were better than us, simple as that. Granted it wasn’t as bad as Preston, but we created few chances and a team with just one win all season were never in any great trouble. I could also mention how Blackburn cut us to pieces with incisive, passing football and all we had was huff and puff which won us lots of corners, but not much else.Originally posted by Rjk View Postid say Preston we looked bad - QPR was a terrible result but we weren't that bad - it happens.

We were poor against QPR but better than them overall, they did a classic score and defended well away, look at the stats, it was frustrating but they are quite good defensively at the moment.Originally posted by the other bob wilson View PostThis myth seems to have grown up that we played okay against QPR. Their keeper made 8 saves we had 24 shots seven on target.
Of course it's goals that count.
They've kept a clean sheet against us, Watford, Oxford, Norwich, and only conceded one against Bristol in their last five games, winning three and drawing two.

Re: Relegation odds, will we go down?
But that’s another trait of a relegation side, they play the team’s around them into form. Blackburn hadn’t scored in four and were in a terrible run of form when they came here, but they’ve not looked back since. You’ve pointed out QPR’s form since they won here and Preston would have beaten Leeds on Saturday were it not for an own goal in added time.Originally posted by North Cardiff Blue View PostWe were poor against QPR but better than them overall, they did a classic score and defended well away, look at the stats, it was frustrating but they are quite good defensively at the moment.

Re: Relegation odds, will we go down?
With QPR they changed to a more defensive set up after getting beat comfortably by Leeds and Boro they've done what we need to do, keep clean sheets and build from there. We were better on Saturday, but Alnwick was poor for both goals, we deserved the win, but with the change in formation we looked much better even with some better players out injured.Originally posted by the other bob wilson View PostBut that’s another trait of a relegation side, they play the team’s around them into form. Re: Relegation odds, will we go down?
same as about half the division who are in a similar boat - I.e. not competitive and no money to throw at it.Originally posted by Vic Flange View PostAlso if we do stay up, what then?
we - or indeed any of the non- parachute payment teams- really need to maximise the return (in football terms) from our available budget to be competitive.
so if a couple of the younger players kick on and start to become a force at this level, then that helps us progress.
also if some of the fringe younger players show they are capable of holding down a starting championship spot then that also frees up budget to use elsewhere.
the money we've spent on the likes of Ramsey and El Ghazi hasn't paid off, so we will have to do better with whoever we replace them with.
to be more specific - I think bagan is now at the level where we can think about not needing to replace Collins in the summer - this means we can use the money elsewhere.
the wages we are allegedly paying Ramsey and El Ghazi should buy us a top championship performer if used more wisely.
We generally have a decent recent track record with loans - improving on Kanga would make a big difference.
lots of ways we can progress next season - whether we will is another issue
