Re: Relegation odds, will we go down?

City are one of the three lowest goalscoring teams in the division and that is unlikely to change. The team seems absolutely clueless in attack and lacks a golascorer.

we - or indeed any of the non- parachute payment teams- really need to maximise the return (in football terms) from our available budget to be competitive.
so if a couple of the younger players kick on and start to become a force at this level, then that helps us progress.
also if some of the fringe younger players show they are capable of holding down a starting championship spot then that also frees up budget to use elsewhere.

the money we've spent on the likes of Ramsey and El Ghazi hasn't paid off, so we will have to do better with whoever we replace them with.

to be more specific - I think bagan is now at the level where we can think about not needing to replace Collins in the summer - this means we can use the money elsewhere.
the wages we are allegedly paying Ramsey and El Ghazi should buy us a top championship performer if used more wisely.
We generally have a decent recent track record with loans - improving on Kanga would make a big difference.

lots of ways we can progress next season - whether we will is another issue
Lots of players out on loan gaining experience, like Conte, Colwill, the academy is showing a little bit of promise at last.

I don't think we will see Conte back here

I don't think so. Before checking the odds, I immediately thought Portsmouth, Plymouth, Oxford, Stoke, and Derby would end up in trouble, and we only have to finish above three of them.

Hull and QPR will be down and around too.
I imagine their fans will be saying the same about us

Unfortunately for us Portsmouth seem to be playing themselves into some kind of form, QPR the same. Hull have a new manager, money to invest and don't forget beat us 4-1 at their place. Derby will be fine

Fortunately for us, Plymouth look shit, Oxford seem to be falling away and Stoke seem poor

With it looking unlikely that we'll bring in an actual manager I think we're reliant on what other teams do

We have done well (mostly) with loans in recent seasons, but the one element of a strategy that the club shared in the summer was a deliberate move away from making loan signings (Kanga the only one) and instead promoting academy players and buying young and promising players who will improve the team but also become saleable assets in future years.

I think that approach is generally the right one.

But it hasn't worked for us this season mainly because of Bulut and the lack of quality and balance in the squad he handed to Riza.

With the position we are now in I hope and expect the club are going back to the loan market. In one way it would be a backward step, but..... Harry Wilson, Cody Drameh, Alfie Doughty, Tommy Doyle, Ryan Giles, Cedric Kipre, Jaden Philogene, Sory Kaba, Karlan Grant..... yes please!

I think there will be some twist and turns yet. I don’t think Riza will last the transfer window and it also depends who we bring in. We need pace, power and goals.

Lost our last 3 home games on the bounce lost 4 points in the last few minutes of our last 2 away games.
                  Worst start in our history.
                  Terribly unbalanced squad.
                  Rooky manager.
This is a recipe for tier 3.

yeah - I think the club WERE hoping that Isaac Davies would have a break through season this year, just the timing of his injury was terrible bad luck

                      Runarsson

                      Drameh Kipre Phillips Giles
                      Doyle ???
                      Philogene Wilson Grant
                      Kaba

tried to make an XI entirely from loan players from the last few years (since last relegation)
a better keeper and one more midfielder and that side would piss this division

We're in real trouble, fitness issues plaguing the squad continuously, a fan base who have given up, no pace no goal scorer and a coaching staff who are short in numbers and experience.

January once again is make or break.

Really good point. The cycle of failure continues, crowds continue to drop.

This has to end somehow, either by us fans growing a pair and standing up or us eventually going down.

I thought when we had that decent run we would be fine, not mid table fine but that we looked considerably better than Plymouth and Portsmouth at least.

Nearly half the season gone and we are still down there amongst them.

I think it's all set up for us to drop this year.

No saviour points deductions, rookie manager that we took months to appoint, no set piece goals, no fit striker probably none good enough anyway, 125 year celebrations.

Some fans have been saying that it's absolutely vital we stay up and it would be the end of the world if we went down. I can't work that out myself. It just appears that we'd be kicking the can again.

There was a phrase that Rob Phillips used on his phone-in last Saturday, saying that we'd been going round and round the plughole for a few years. Seemed pretty accurate and, to me, it seems inevitable as things stand, we'll eventually fall in.

No? I thought he looked useful in the few games I've seen him play, but haven't kept up with his loan.
