It was well-acted, and very well filmed - a lot of it in excellent single shot takes. But.... it may be that I'm a bit out of touch with modern social media, but I thought the story line was let down by the actual murder motive. A white 13 yr old girl was stabbed to death by a white 13 yr old boy from a stable background, due to bullying? And it was all because of incel pressure on social media? Really?

Fox News
The Netflix series Adolescence is not directly based on any single real-life case in the UK. According to co-creator Jack Thorne, the show is entirely fictional and does not depict any specific true story.
However, the series draws thematic inspiration from various incidents of knife crime and violence involving teenagers in the UK. Co-creator Stephen Graham conceived the drama in response to the increase in violent knife crime, including the murders of Elianne Andam and Ava White. These events influenced the show's exploration of issues such as toxic masculinity, online bullying, and the impact of social media on youth.
It seems to be based on recent child murders, these two were mentioned.
Ava White
Ava White was a 12-year-old girl from Liverpool, known for her bright and caring nature. On November 25, 2021, she attended a Christmas lights switch-on event in Liverpool city center with friends. An altercation occurred when a 14-year-old boy filmed Ava and her friends without consent and shared the video on Snapchat. When Ava confronted him and demanded the video be deleted, the boy stabbed her in the neck with a knife. Ava was taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The boy fled the scene but was later arrested and charged with Ava's murder. He was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 13 years. The judge emphasized the senselessness of the crime and its profound effect on Ava's family and the wider community.
Elianne Andam
Elianne Andam was a 15-year-old schoolgirl from Croydon, South London, with aspirations of becoming a human rights lawyer. On September 27, 2023, she was fatally stabbed by 17-year-old Hassan Sentamu during a confrontation near the Whitgift Centre. The altercation arose when Elianne intervened to support a friend in a dispute over personal belongings, including a teddy bear, following her friend's breakup with Sentamu. In a fit of anger, Sentamu attacked Elianne, stabbing her multiple times. Despite immediate medical attention, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Sentamu fled but was apprehended shortly after. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 23 years. The judge highlighted the devastating impact of his actions on Elianne's family and the community.

Shit. A Yorkshireman the head of a Liverpool drug cartel? I don’t think so
People do move to different parts of the country, even in real life. Apparently there’s actually Albanians running the show in some parts of the UK, hard to believe eh?
