Not been in there for probably 10 years other than the odd visit to the Tesco but did today as I was up that end of town and needed to dodge the rain.

It was a shell of its former self before but has somehow got worse, it's now basically five or six units. The gym and Tesco obviously keeping it barely open.

The other few independents mostly restricting access to outside the centre, probably to control shoplifting. Must be 90% of it vacant, most of them for years.

Oh and the car park I suppose.

Must be some solution to use the space for something, even in a similar mould to the gym.

I remember mostly going to the cinema there and was it virgin that was there?

Did see a boxing apparel store though, kind of cool.

That area's been dead as a doornail for years, especially the centre. That part of Queen Street is pretty grim now. I walk through it every day that I'm in the office and the shops at that end have been very low grade for a long time. Even the charity shop opposite Sainsburys closed down last year.

I'm very happy to criticise the parlous state of our high streets, but in this case they are being cleared out so this can come in

Plans are underway to open a new multi-purpose venue in the Welsh capital. The new venue, named the Capitol Arena, is planned for the current Capitol shopping centre, which was built on the site where The Capitol Theatre once stood. The venue, which is still at the planning/licensing stage, takes its name from the historic […]

The way Cardiff council operate, wouldn’t be surprised to see the whole place demolished soon and replaced either some sort of plaza with bars all around to try and drag in the students more…..

              Re: Capitol centre

The new St Davids shopping area as well as the Hayes did for the Capitol, consumers simply went to the other side of Town, it was probably expected to happen, and i think that it's just something that happens when newer, better shopping areas are built, there's always a knock on affect. Still, it's almost abandoned now. It'll come to life again in some guise.

I also noticed that little canal area looking a bit derelict now, 4 or 5 units next to it empty. At least the London style pub looks decent enough.

Is that posh, boring, men's store still down that end? I can't remember name.

I don’t know which store you’re referring to, but the answer is definitely no. If you haven’t been at that end of town for some time I think you’d be amazed.

It’s been a gradual decline but there’s basically nothing of note left there now. A Sainsbury’s, a Tesco’s, a KFC and a bargain homeware shop that has been having a closing down sale for approximately 18 months. That’s about it.

Flannels? If so that's still on Churchill way yes.

Although not specifically a men's store, I can't think what else you could mean.

I've been looking on Google maps trying to work out where this place is. Honestly had no idea there were any shops still operating on Churchill Way and I don't think I've ever known that this Flannels place existed.

I won't be back in the office until next Thursday, but I'll be seeking it out next week just out of curiosity.

I’m not sure how that store stays open, it’s off the beaten track for a start, every time I’ve been in it, there’s maybe one other person and that was years ago….

Do it, you might find yourself a nice pair of stone island jeans for about £500…..I quite like my labels but I’ve never bought a thing in there

It's just up from Tesco, before you get to that courtyard area with premier inn and other businesses. Today when I went in it was a little obscured by scaffolding.
