I don't define myself as being anti-English so I would prefer the latter to come out on top - and it would please many of my English friends if their team does well.
I will be inviting English friends around to watch an England game or two at mine and although I wouldn't celebrate with them as such, seeing their joy would be no bad thing.
If Wales had qualified I would have invited Welsh friends to watch the games concerned and my engagement would be on a far higher level to say the least.
P.S. I may also invite some German speakers around for a game involving Nagelsmann's cohort.
Before the 2021 Euros final I considered trying to support England. As soon as Luke Shaw scored early in the game I realised supporting them was impossible. Just couldn't bring myself to do it.
I dont mind their women's team doing well though.
I'm no fan of England, but it doesn't particularly bother me if they win a football match or two. I've never really disliked that many of their players, apart from Terry Butcher, during the 80's, and the side containing Lampard and Gerrard was quite easy for me to dislike.
The thing that used to amuse me was the reaction in the meadia. The red tops would go all tin hats, references about the 2nd world war and imperialism etc, xenophobic etc. Do they still do that or has it just transferred over to Facebook and Twitter, that seems to be the places where the clowns hang out these days.
If England do win the World cup, and they should really be getting close with the players they have, then take some consolation in the fact that they're being led by a German.

We shouldn't hold anything against the average English person merely because the red-top gutter press exists. It's just like fan websites making generalisations about the fans of other clubs based on a gobby or notorious minority. The avergae supporter of any club or country is unlikely to be a bad egg.
Best not define oneself by negatives, say I.
I don't want England to win (BBC showed the 66 final a few days ago!) ...
but I want Trump to be humiliated more.
Could they both lose?
They will. Before the final as well. Imo, TT knows this and also knew it when he went for the interview. He probably weighed up the difference in getting dogs abuse for a while, against the fortune he’s gonna take off the suckers.

Agree entirely. I hate generalisation when it comes to people. A bloke in Barnsley will be pretty much the same as me in many aspects of life. Fat, Ugly, too much booze, 40 a day habit and a penchant towards wearing the same underwear for three days. I don't like to cast Aspersions..

I live in England (have done most of my life), my partner is English, most of my friends are English, but I cannot bring myself to support England under any circumstances and I usually want them to lose.
I could rationalise it with reference to the history of English colonialism, the English media or to my hatred of racist English nationalists - but that is not the main reason. Most of the English football fans I know are sound. My closest colleague (and friend) when I was working was a loony England and Owls fan - she used to ring me from stadiums all over Europe when she was away waving a St George’s flag.
It isn’t rational for me. It is irrational but deep rooted and works on an emotional level. I have tried to watch an England game on TV and support the white shirts but I can’t - there is a mental block I cannot shift. It is just a fact of (my) life and I love it!
On an England v USA final can we have a mass brawl, match abandoned, both teams thrown out if the World Cup, and the title awarded to the winner of the 3rd/4th place match that no one cares about?

Speaking of colonialism, I always think of the film 'Zulu' when I hear 'Men of Harlech' being sung. Based on a battle where Welshman represented 25% of the regiment fighting on behalf of the British Empire.
I know we have heard the saying I support any team playing England a million times
Well it applies to me people say they can not see why the Welsh dislike the English so much but I see the same sort of pure dismissal dislike from the English towards us
I will never change my mind on this so 100% I say USA USA LOL

I've lived in England for 45 years and in numerous locations including Somerset, Devon, Dorset, Kent and in Greater London - and I can't say that my experience has been anything like yours.
