This game was an excellent opportunity to give players like Moore, Morrison, Wintle, Sang, Murphy and Harris minutes on the pitch. Putting a load of other youngsters in to a game against a strong league two outfit would only have ended one way - out of the competiton. Who cares if their goalie chucked one in, as you put it. He was put under pressure by a shot from good play and lay off to Watkins by Moore in the box. If you don't shoot you don’t score. All this hoofball crap is a load of nonsense. We have signed five players now this season and all of them can play and pass. Its just another way of people trying to hit the club over the head because they don't like Tan or McCarthy.
Yes I was. There were a number of aimless lumps, particularly in the first half when Sutton were the only team keeping it on the ground for large spells of it. Sorry I'm not delighted by us being second best, we could have been 3 down if it wasn't for Smithies ffs. I do care that it took a howler for us to get on the scoresheet against a team who were non league last season, don't you?

Second half was different, there was more passing but not particularly effective and it often broke down. 2nd goal a good finish after good work by Harris and a slightly fortunate deflection, 3rd a nice breakaway.

Hoofball "nonsense" are you for real? I know you refuse to criticise the club at all, but you'd have to take some pretty strong drugs to see us play anything other than long ball. It doesn't what they "can" do but what they're told to do. These are pro footballers, they can all pass the ball. What they're told to do on the pitch is a different matter

Strong, as in physical Mr Pedantic, with a quick winger and centre forward. I didn't mean they would storm their league but don't think they will get relegated back to the conference either.

Another absolute cracker from you that.
            Keep them coming.

I'd suggest next time you go to the City though watching the actual game. You're the only one who saw our crisp passing on the deck during our dominant display against the solid League 2 outfit last night.

I don't care how the ball goes in the net, as long as we score and hopefully win. It sounds like you disregard any scrappy goals we score, in the quest for ‘perfection’. Get real. You are one of the main protagonists of pushing this ‘hoofball’ crap on here and appear totally unable to recognise the situation the club and players find themselves in. The way you talk every higher level team should always beat lower opposition in cup games. As I say, get real.

Once again, making stuff up. Please show me in my post where i said we played ‘crisp passing on the deck against a solid league 2 outfit’. At least I went to the game and actually watched it, unlike you probably stuck in your darkened room, keyboard in hand, waiting for the usual cup defeat, so that you could get online and glorify in another inept hoofball display by your least favourite team. You must be distraught that City actually won - took a bit of ammunition out of your gun. Never mind, you will soon find something else to moan about.

You said there was no hoofball at all, meaning that we tried actually passing it to a team mate for the whole game.
That has been rubbished by other posters here.

And you've got the cheek to ask if I was at the game? If you were I'd suggest taking those rose tinted specs off next time.

I'm not sure what dml stands for but the d has to be deluded surely?

Ciaron Brown and Mark McGuinness both injured - both ankles. Out for 2-4 weeks!

Mozzer and Nelson both coming nack from injuries/operations. Marlon Pack as cover?

C'mon, you can't call him out as being 'pedantic' on that one, surely??
You should have used the words.. "physically strong", if that is what you meant.

I think it's universally accepted, that when referring to a team as "strong" it suggests they have strength in most positions. For example, not having a weak (poor) defence.

Thanks for the info. I was a bit worried we may offload him to Middlesbrough. But Warnock has signed Bamba now so no need to worry.

To be fair, last night we were OK. Still rusty, a bit shaky at the back. Davies making his debut, and Morrison's 1st competitive game and Smithies showing why he should be first choice stopper.

I was bemused when Marley Watkins appeared in the team, but give the lad credit, he had a decent game and scored two on his debut. Sang was good on the right and Davies did well after being caught out for their first goal. Vaulks was competetive too. Moore looked out of sorts though, not surprisingly.

But a much better than last Saturday. Very little 'hoofball' despite what has been said above. They tried to play it around, it didn't always work. But MM will soon knock this passing game out of the youngsters!! I am more worried about our defence, they look ponderous, and well off form, although Flint has been the pick of the centre backs in both games. Lots of positives though.

No I don't disregard scrappy goals, merely acknowledge that there is a difference between a well worked one and a scrappy one. Scrappy goals suggest a certain amount of luck, something that is unsustainable across a season, a well worked one the opposite. Surely you'd prefer to see us score well worked goals?

My apologies for thinking a side that boasts internationals and a number of seasoned Championship players should be beating League 2 new boys Sutton United fairly comfortably rather than relying on scrappy goals.

What situation do we find ourselves in and how did we get there?
