cleared the folder of all files seems to have sorted it now:thumbup:

OK, then I think it's likely to be a default setting that is trying to open the PDFs using drive instead of chrome. I read about one user who had a similar problem.Originally posted by poc View Postits back again
When opening a PDF file in chrome they accidentally clicked automatically open with drive, instead of clicking chrome. This leads to the file being opened by Google drive (which has a known bug). There is no way to force the chromebook to revert back to automatically opening in chrome, even when the file was opened from chrome. They tried installing another PDF app, making it default and uninstalling to get the prompt but that didn't work.
It was only rectified by a factory reset of the chromebook to be able to open a PDF in chrome. It makes the most sense to me especially as its clearly not going to resolve itself and I don't think there's going to be another solution without forensics.
