Big test today for the Premier League Manager of the Month, so it will be interesting to see how they do against a decent team.

They are more than decent - reining European and World Champions away.

Newcastle looked well organised and should improve further with a few more transfer windows. I've always rated Howe as a manager, but he had the blip at Bournemouth and now seems to be back on track again.

        The "blip" was at Burnley

I'm talking about the season Bournemouth were relegated from the Premier League, and he took some time out to reassess his future.

OK, in that case can we say he has had two blips?

He left Burnley for personal reasons due to his Mum's death, so not really a blip is it?

New Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe says personal reasons left him with no choice but to leave Burnley.

Did a good job at Burnley in the time he was there. Brought in some good players and improved their squad.

It was after a relegation too, which is always a difficult transition, as you either bounce back straight away or you go into freefall.

Checking the stats, Burnley did get promoted again two years later in 13/14, and this was followed by a relegation in 14/15, and a further promotion in 15/16.

Newcastle up to 4th, very impressive considering they were 19th in the table and five points from safety after 11 games when Howe was appointed less than a year ago.

He’s doing very well, yes they have spent some money but they haven’t spent huge on big names. He certainly improved what we had, even Murphy is still getting game time.

They are hard to beat, and have only lost one game so far. If they can turn those draws into victories they will be challenging for a Top 4 finish. They'll probably need another transfer window or two, but still an excellent turnaround by Eddie Howe.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they spent over £100M last January. When they've got more to offer besides money, I'm sure the big names will come.

How much have the Big 6 spent? How much have Forest spent? Don't you think it takes management skills to go from the bottom of the league to Top 4 in less that a year?
