      Re: Rangers

I dislike their fans, met some very unpleasant groups a few years back in Glasgow after a game.

That said, excellent result for Scottish football which I have a soft spot for. Must be the first time in ~20 years there have been 2 Scottish teams in the CL group stages.

Tom Lawrence has to be a serious contender for that world cup squad now?

Already chalked up a few goals and was a hair length away from scoring an absolute banger tonight.

Matondo slipping down the pecking order again, he never seems to establish himself at any of the clubs he's played for. Following on from the above post, with the emergence of Johnson, Thomas and the possible return of Brooks, Rabbi may have a battle to be on the plane to Qatar.

2 Jock teams in the CL, but there won’t be a saltire in view at any of their games. Strange, mixed up bunch.

Doubt either of them will get out of the group.

I'm a protestant, but I'd be a Partick Thistle or Queens Park fan if I lived in Glasgow because I've never had any time for Rangers, but you have to give them credit for some brilliant results in Europe lately - they're even more praiseworthy because of the number that have come away from home.

2007/08 I think Celtic got to last 16 and Rangers finished 3rd and dropped into Europa

                          Re: Rangers

I think this is potentially massive for the SPL, IIRC getting to the group stages is a guaranteed income of at least £30m, so with 2 clubs there there is £60m coming into the Scottish game.

To put that into context SKY pay £26 million per season for the SPL TV rights. Not per club, for the entire league.

Great result for Rangers, Scottish and indeed British football. Great for Wales too given their squad.

Unless the Scottish league has a system like the Dutch where X% of European money is filtered and shared through the league this will do nothing for Scottish football except make a 2 horse race even more of a closed shop.
