Mackay done a brilliant job and a brilliant rebuild after the mess Jones left.

Would I want him back. No. Its not happening anyway.

We spent nearly as much on Callum Robinson as Mackay did on transfer fees in his first season in charge.

Frank Burrows, Lenny Eyebrows and Eddie May are all evidence that it doesn't work the second time of asking.

But ultimately his success was down to Tan's purse strings.

Show me a manager who has won the Championship and not spent anything. They all do, or they've spent in the past and kept their players after relegation from the PL.

We apparently spent roughly £12m during our promotion season, according to transfermarkt. That's about the same as Warnock spent during our promotion season. Was Warnock's success down to Tan's purse strings?

In both cases there was a feeling after the season before that we could have a good season. I fancied us to go up under Warnock before we kicked off the season at Burton.

In Mackay's case, almost half of that was on two strikrs that did nothing for us - Velikonja barely ever played for us and Maynard was unlucky with a serious injury after only a few games. Warnock wasted all that money on Madine.

Tan wouldn't have him back, so it's a pointless question.

More chance of Vince taking on Fulton Mackay.

He's been dead for 35 years but I reckon he could still do a better job than Solskjaer.

Transfer fees had escalated between the time of those managers. When we went up with Malky we comfortable outspend everyone in the league and it felt by some distance. Under Warnock I’m sure there were a lot of clubs spending bigger than us.

A huge NO from me. I'd rather take Lennie Lawrence back!

No we didn't, though we were among the big spenders.

Wolves and Blackburn spent more than us. Wolves went down. Blackburn struggled. Hull City spent around 3/4ers of what we did to finish 2nd.

Watford finished 3rd as a result of bringing in a load of players from Udinese. Who knows what that would have cost?

My point is that it's not just the money that got us promoted. Malky had a very good first season as he mostly rebuilt the squad and Tan decided to back him with some money. I reckon Malky would have got us into a similar position if he'd have spent much less.

Malky wasn't reckless with his spending, either, bar Cornelius. Of the players he paid for during our promotion season and his time with us in the PL, when we came to selling those players on, we lost £14m (according to transfermarkt). Warnock, of the players he bought during our promotion season and PL, when it came to moving those players on, we lost £36m (according to transfermarkt). While I'm not claiming those figures are exact, we wasted far more money on players under Warnock.
