We were chatting along the lines of this on the bus on Saturday. How, apart from some obvious exceptions, it’s a struggle to know who’s who with clubs. Players stayed with clubs it seemed years ago and if you throw a name at someone of a certain age, the name of his club will automatically follow. Hunt-Liverpool, Blanchflower-Spurs, Moore-West Ham, Boyce-West Ham, Stringfellow-Leicester, Labone-Everton, even Jim Standen got a mention for two clubs- West Ham & Worcestershire, 1964, Cup Winners medal, County Championship winners medal & top of the bowling averages, hard to imagine that now.
