Had a bit of business to attend in town today, after a bit of lunch me and Doris had a few drinks in spoons (POW), 2 large gins and two bottles of tonic £11.20, had a couple then bus back to Heath, stop in the birch, one for the road!! 2 large gins 2 bottles of tonic £15.90, that's quite a difference for the same drinks gin was the same brand.

Re: The cost of drinking local
You can't really compare Wetherspoons prices with normal pubs. Wetherspoons buy knock off booze on the cheap which is near enough out of date, hence they can sell it cheaply.Originally posted by Heathblue View PostHad a bit of business to attend in town today, after a bit of lunch me and Doris had a few drinks in spoons (POW), 2 large gins and two bottles of tonic £11.20, had a couple then bus back to Heath, stop in the birch, one for the road!! 2 large gins 2 bottles of tonic £15.90, that's quite a difference for the same drinks gin was the same brand.

The thing about the sell by dates isn't true. They just buy a lot of it, have staying power so people want to supply it, and it's what their customers want.Originally posted by Alan Lung View PostYou can't really compare Wetherspoons prices with normal pubs. Gin and Tonic does piss me off with those poncy little bottles. Just splash some tonic water in ffs.

I don't think spending money on cheap booze at 3 pm on a Tuesday afternoon is the sign of a discerning customerOriginally posted by JamesWales View PostThe thing about the sell by dates isn't true. A / are being infinitely more insulting to the customers than the owner ever has.
B / Sound like you have been drinking all day in the Dunraven in Bridgend.
Nothing wrong with affordable beer Sludge. Many wouldn't be able to socialise without it, especially in some city centres.

I am more than happy to insult the boring beer soaked clowns who spend all down drinking and telling tedious stories whilst propping up the bar in wetherspoonsOriginally posted by JamesWales View PostThe irony here being that you

One of the biggest problems in this country is people using alcohol to socialise
Far better to go to a community cafe and have a few cups of tea and far less hassle

That's not correct. Their beer is cheaper because of economies of scale.Originally posted by Alan Lung View PostYou can't really compare Wetherspoons prices with normal pubs. Wetherspoons buy knock off booze on the cheap which is near enough out of date, hence they can sell it cheaply.

Why don't they drink less alcohol and go for lunch with friends more often ?
Egg and chips and a cup of tea and a chat down Mario's Italian cafe is a lot cheaper than 20 quid on the lager every other lunchtime
