I understand it alright. It is an example of a tax that typically hits the poorer more though, and an environmental led policy that is slightly misguided in its approach perhaps.

Longer term it is of course better for us all to lower emissions. In the interim if you are keeping an older car going for longer and not driving much but paying far more tax than the rich guy next door in his new car (hardly built carbon free) then it is understandably frustrating.

NEW electric car tax is going through the roof

Those , like me , driving older petrol cars have been paying higher tax for several years now

My car is ten years old, I have no intention of buying electric or hybrid until I have no choice

It's going to cost me a few hundred more to tax my car from April but it's pointless me buying a new vehicle as even basic electric cars are expensive

I am financially OK so will take the hit

£180 a year I pay at mo be interesting to see what it is next year, it’s expensive enough to drive already, many can’t afford what’s now a luxury item. Why they doubling it for new electric cars?? Seems a bit harsh….

Do you not know? A guy a bit earlier said it being doubled, seemed to know what he was talking about, so you'll be paying £360

Luckily the rich are still able to afford huge mansions dotted around the world, ocean going yachts and a fleet of private aircraft, and miraculously emissions don't seem to be an issue for them, but yeah, carry on doing what they tell you!
