The acid test is when someone asks if you would give up your job to go on benefits. I certainly won't because I enjoy my job. I've asked the question many times and Ive never met anyone who’s taken the offer up. Now isn't that strange?
You seem a bit paranoid too, I wasn’t talking about you with regard to weed you clown, but real people I know……

I’m glad you know these people, not sure if I believe you mind, that means you frequent plenty of reform or anti labour people and I find that very hard to believe, just like you’ve worked for 40 years……
Well you've confirmed my suspicions about you. You clearly make assumptions with very little evidence so that rules you out of any serious discussion.

You're bitching about people on benefits because you object to your taxes allowing them a decent and dignified existence. If you can enjoy a decent and dignified existence yourself then you are having a hissy fit because you'd prefer to pay less tax so as to top up on luxuries. That's pretty evident.

Of course I know people on benefits, I also know people like you who spend all their time bitching about other people because they want more and more and more and wallow in their prejudices. I meet all sorts at the pub and the most obvious thing is that these are people who live in bubbles.

You failed the acid test incidentally, as I guessed you would. Better luck next time.

I don't think I'm paranoid. You've just accused me of not working without knowing me. Just because I believe everyone deserves a decent and dignified life and I detest greed doesn't mean I want a life on benefits. I feel sorry for those people who are unfortunate enough not to have an interesting and fulfilling job.

Bla bla bla…..you sound rattled? Bless…..you were the one who started on assumptions…..

It wasn't me who made assumptions, you did that. You're as easy to read as a book so I just read. After all you do make your feelings clear for all to see.

How many people do you know with cannabis induced PTSD

PTSD is a serious illness usually caused by exposure to life threatening experiences ......war , car crashes , sexual assault

Smoking lots of weed doesnt give you PTSD

As usual this thread descends into a black and white scenario with shades of grey preciously sparse.

I come from a "benefits family". Both sets of my grandparents died in council accommodation (although they didn't always live in it) my dad's on disability, my mum's on housing and my ex partner (and thus my kids in effect) benefit from Universal credit.

So I understand the absolute importance of benefits, and the dignity it gives people. I also know that some people do take the piss but I know it's wholly not appropriate to blame people collectively or accuse them of being lazy etc, even if it does apply to some individuals, it doesn't apply to the collective.

But, I can also recognise that an ever growing welfare bill is not a good thing. It may be a result of a benign and caring government but it's also a result of societal or healthcare failure that wholly needs addressing.

The questions to ask here are why has the welfare bill surged since COVID. What has changed in how we live our lives that so many more are ill, feel ill, feel depressed, feel lonely, anxious, unhappy, despairing etc.

The answer isnt to blame people on benefits not to bury ones head in the sand, it's to get to the route of the issue and acknowledging there is an issue is part of that because things feel very unsustainable at the moment
