Less legitimate is personal criticisms. Now some will argue personal issues do count - such as if someone cheats on their partner, or if they appear rude as a person. I guess that may be fair enough but its less legitimate for me. Rayner gets her fair share of that, although not as much as others IMO.

What is definitely not acceptable is any criticism based on her gender or race etc. I am pretty wise to that. As mentioned before I have called it out on here when female politicians have been called bitches, sluts etc.

I guess some people may hate Rayner cos she is female. Some people hate Johnson cos he's male and some may hate Sunak cos his parents came from India.

What you need to do is evidence the level of it though. For this to be labeled as "all about hating women" by Ninian Opinion is very incorrect in my opinion an creates a false narrative designed to detract.

Personally I don't mind Rayner. I think her labeling opponents as scum was appalling but she rightly apologised.

Bigger issue here for me is probably why she is buying a main residence hundreds of miles away from her constituents.
Can you now name all the MPs whose main residence is not in their constituencies for balance?

And you do know that this IS ALLOWED don’t you?

No. But I think all MPs should live in their constituencies or at least close to them and not the other side of the country. And if someone is responsible for Housing policy then they should expect to be under even greater scrutiny.

Sunak and his wife were scrutinised for their tax status weren't they?

If that was ok to do and I think it was ok to do in the public interest then she should be ok with scrutiny too

What do you expect a woman to do? Stay in an unhappy marriage and continue to live with her ex husband? Why shouldn’t she be allowed to buy her own house and move on?

She bought a council house years before becoming an MP. Did that mean she shouldnt have been allowed to go into politics, or that she should have sold the house back to the council at the original purchase price, rather than at market value?

Absolutely, yes she should either have principles she sticks by or not if shes going to use those principles for political gain

                  Shes a flat track hypocrite

She HATES tory housing policy but she herself has made money from it

She was exposed as having done so instead of admitting it herself

She can do one alongside starmer as far as I am concerned

                    from the article

She also told Tameside council in Greater Manchester that the house in her constituency was still her main home, before telling Brighton and Hove council that her new flat was her second home, which would change her status for council tax.
if this is true then the additional SDLT would be payable, as you only pay the lower rate if you're buying your main residence.

During divorce you have three years from the end of the tax year you separated to finalise your tax affairs. People buy a second house all the time. They have to pay the SDLT and then, assuming the divorce settlement is within the 3 years, they can recover the SDLT paid.

Sounds like Raynor needs to pay the SDLT, then recover what was paid when the divorce settlement is finalised.

You'll find most left wing voters are like this Sludge, this really shouldn't be news. The majority are happy to demonise Tory policies but they'll take the coin when they benefit directly.

I've got a client - you'd like him - a proper dyed in the wool socialist. But can you get him to pay tax....always moaning about having to pay tax, always looking for ways to reduce his tax bill....

with all due respect sludge we've had staunch left wingers on this forum who are quiet happy to circumvent the rules and take the coin when it suits them personally. Mick the Miller spending his inheritance on champagne trips to hong kong, TOBW raking in the coin selling off his parents right to buy house, DTM using legal loopholes to avoid paying tax as a contractor....yet all swear blind they cannot abide the personal approach adopted by the Tories. The hypocrisy is astounding.

There is definitely a degree of politics going on from the Tories, but Raynor does have questions to answer as she has declared once house the main residence for council tax purposes and the other house her main residence for SDLT purposes. You can't have both, and this does need clearing up.
