As for the latest Tory tosspot to have joined their ranks, I'd expect it to be big news if he was a sitting MP who had defected from one party to another, but this dreadful individual isn't an MP. He's a has-been.
If only everyone was an intelligent as you eh?!

He's doing it for the good of his adopted country; nothing to do with the Tories turning down Zahawi's peerage. If only everyone was endowed with his honesty and integrity.

IÂ’m a little puzzled as to why an ex-MP joining a minority party is considered to be such big news. I guess it demonstrates what a stranglehold Reform have managed to gain over the British media.
Well if they didn't fill 10 pages with this they might have to report on things like:

Illegal working arrests and raids have reached their highest level after relentless activity by the Home Office’s Immigration Enforcement teams.

But then that would get in the way of creating the ideal platform for reform to be elected next time.

Its good that the government have found a way to increase immigration/illegal working enforcement without shooting mums in the head.

I think you’ll find they’re trying to ban perverts making sexualised images of children. Agree with that do we??? I think I know the answer, the right are a dirty bunch.

bit weird that some people are so anti potentially banning an app that is used to produce child porn but nothing surprises me anymore

It's a disgusting change as things stand. There's loads of it on X at the moment. You see a lot of influencers asking Grok to put them in bikinis (some is essentially porn) and you see people asking Grok (without consent) to put so and so in a bikini. I think whether AI should do the former is questionable but the latter is absolutely appalling. I am very sceptical of AI. On balance I think it will make life worse and this is an interesting test case. We absolutely have to have control over AI and social media platforms to prevents this.

I guess, playing devil's advocate, that an argument against is that it does happen on other platforms, yet people only talk about X for political reasons (and it's the biggest example).

Others might also say that newspapers and websites print candid real photos of people in bikinis anyway - is it worse to print fake ones?

I think it's also valid to not want to jump to talk of banning things, as that should be the last resort.

Finally I suppose there are some free speech absolutists who genuinely think its fair game to produce any image of any person you like, however sick.

I'm of the opinion it's a clear overreach and Grok (and other AI) needs to be programmed to not do those things. Inevitably that raises questions of what other less liberal countries will ask it not to do too, but so be it. That's a better problem to have than free reign on editing and publishing photos of people's bodies.

And to make matters worse a lot of people have chucked out their books and youngsters don't buy them, plus libraries are shutting down. It will be a very 1984-ish world if AI becomes the arbiter of truth.

Absolutely. I don't doubt it's benefits in some respects but I far more sceptical of it than the arrival of the internet for example

That's because the policies and manifestos are not their own. They are puppets, and bad ones at that.
