However, these are bizarre times where what I thought were the normal rules do not apply - killing a hundred and more schoolchildren as part of what is widely considered to be an illegal war should have Trump and Netanyahu firmly on the back foot in any world with morals and a sense of what is right and wrong, but I'm not sure it will in 2026.

Meanwhile, I see Starmer has caved under the first small sign of American pressure - wtf are "defensive strikes" by America in the context of this conflict?

If there was ever a damned if you do or don’t situation for the government, it’s this one. He’ll get flack whatever he says or does.

But maybe the opposite will be the effect.

When an American - or Israeli - missile massacres 85 people (mainly children) in a girls’ elementary school in Minab, the effect may be to turn the peoples anger against the ones firing the missiles, and deflect from anger against the regime.
Well I think Putin set the benchmark when he thought it was ok to shoot down a Malaysian jumbo jet with nearly 300 people on board including about 80 school kids…..in 2014.

I would imagine the vast majority of us don't want the UK to have anything whatsoever to do with this war but if you're running the country, then with Russian aggression etc you have to consider the long game of potentially hearing "you refused to help us so we won't help you", particularly with a child in charge of comfortably our most powerful ally

I reckon countries (including the UK) were waiting to see Iran's response and as it involves attacking the Gulf states, there is now an excuse for states to take action based on defence of the area. Which includes bombing Iranian targets to prevent them causing further damage.

Trump barks and weasel Starmer jumps dutifully to attention. Looks like the McSweeney departure hasn't had the desired effect. He must go.

We should just tell him to piss off.

US president also ‘very disappointed’ in Keir Starmer over UK government’s deal to hand Chagos Islands to Mauritius

Kuwait admits it shot down three American planes by accident - expect an American attack on Kuwait any minute (that’s a not very good attempt at gallows humour before anyone gets outraged).

Starmer will likely let on his knees and ask His Excellency for forgiveness

By the way Kuwait does have oil so your jibe isn't all that far fetched. Maybe Trump is just waiting for an excuse.

Re: Iran's supreme leader reportedly dead

Israel has used the distraction of tearing up the UN Charter and initiating an illegal war against Iran (and Lebanon and Syria) with their dealer and supplier the USA to close all the crossings into Gaza. From a trickle of aid there is now nothing getting in. Famine - very quickly - is a real possibility. They are also accelerating the rolling annexation of the West Bank - all with US approval and complicity.

Mike Huckabee - the US Ambassador to Israel and another evangelical Christian - has publicly supported the idea of a Greater Israel from the Euphrates to the Nile. That would include Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, most of Iraq and half of Egypt (the half that is not desert)!

Apparently that was the scale of the real estate deal made between a stone age tribe and a supernatural invention - as somewhere described in the Old Testament.

It makes the claims of Netanyahu and his fascist allies to the land between ‘the river and the sea’ (the Jordan River to the Mediterranean) look almost modest. Unless you happen to live in the land they are already stealing.

This is a quarter of the problem in the USA. You have a coalition between Judeo-Christian fundamentalists, White Supremacists, Mega Business Barons and a cosplaying nut job as President who has no opinion on anything beyond Self Aggrandisement and extorting as much wealth as he can get away with. Troubling times indeed.
