After all of the high figures in recent days, just 780 new cases in Wales this time with the number of tests not being as low as you might expect. RCT was the only area above 200 cases and then only by 4.

This is a page I check every day - and you can see the very high rates on your side of the Bristol Channel: https://www.covidlive.co.uk/

The daily numbers bounce around a lot for some reason, looking at the charts seem to give a better impression of what is happening, and there is no slow down apparent on there yet.

One theory is that Tuesday's figures are always low due to a weekend lag. 595 cases on the 24th, 667 cases on the 1st and now 780 cases today.

667 cases last week shot up to 1,480 the following day, 1,473 on the Thursday, 1,471 on Friday eventually going over 2,000 by the end of the week. I don't have anything to say it will be the case but it's possible that the highest figures on the Tuesday in three weeks will see us way above 2,000 by the Sunday if climb replicates last week.

Again, I don't fully understand what is so hard about it. If you need to be indoors ensure there is good ventilation by opening a window and allowing air-flow (do it for 5-10 minutes once an hour if can't bear otherwise), wear a mask, wash your hands and social distance. If cases keep rising we're going to end up in greater restrictions which no one wants.

There is an interesting quirk of the numbers if you compare Wales with the whole of the UK.

Wales has about 1 21st of the total population of the UK.

Proportionally we have had more coronavirus cases than we "should" have, about 10,000 more than if we had had the average rate for the UK as a whole.

However, we have had less deaths than you would expect compared to the UK population - about 350 less.

No idea if this is a real effect or just a quirk of the numbers, or differences in the way the data has been collected etc.

I wonder if the recent uplift in positive cases is due to universities carrying out end of term tests before students return home?

Good news about the Oxford vaccine.

The peer-reviewed work in the Lancet medical journal confirms the vaccine is 'safe and protects'.

Welsh death figures do not include people who tested positive in Powys but died in english hospitals. Don't know how much difference their inclusion might make though!

A change to self isolation rules in Wales from tomorrow.

People in Wales will only need to self-isolate for 10 days, rather than the current 14 days for most.

Anyone know anyone who has had a letter about a vaccination date?

Yesterday was just a blip in what is an upward trend in Wales, the highest figure I've seen for new cases today (2,238) with 638 in Blaenau Gwent, 411 in both Cardiff and RCT and 382 in Swansea - we'd be heading towards another lockdown within days I reckon if it wasn't for the desire for a as normal as possible Christmas.

                            The Christmas obsession is ridiculous.

The shops are going to be rammed. People packing into each others houses.

Seems like more and more people that I know are getting it.

At least 5 people that I know from the Workingmens club in Newport that my Dad uses are positive in the last 5 days.

There’s no evidence that they caught it there, but maybe the closures are for the best at the moment.

It’s getting beyond absurd over here.
4398 new cases in Virginia alone yesterday and people still think it’s nothing.

                              I despair!
