Zep very young chaps when they started out
Yep! We've chatted on here before of how you got Kirkey's drumsticks when his band Wildlife (later to morph into FM) blew the Schenker band offstage at Cardiff St. David's Hall.

Yep. Koss was a huge influence on on Angus Young, as he was on Skynyrd's Gary Rossington.

Zep just ain't in the same class as Free. A bit contentious I know but I love the rawness of Free. I love their blues soulful take on rock music. Zep came already well formed with the 100s of sessions Page and J.P. Jones had done. Also did they do an original song on their first two albums?.
All the songs were basically stolen from the blues greats. On top of that they had a nasty vicious thug for a manager, and his equally vile assistant John Bindon. I did see Zep live the once at Knebworth in '79 and quite frankly I was underwhelmed.

Yeah but every band of that era passionately denies they were part of it.

It's opinions but free didn't have the wide ranging repertoire zep had

Flat out metal , folk , reggae, funk , blues

Even the beatles stole from the blues as did the stones

I like free though , don't get me wrong

I used to be a drummer back in the day and the beat to alright now was one of the first I learned to play because it was so easy. Two American artists I went to see that I find hard to beat for their sheer talent on their instruments were Oscar Peterson in the Capitol and Buddy Rich in the New Theatre.I 've never seen anyone else that surpassed them for their ability in their instruments though I saw Kossof in the students union about a month or so before he died and many others too.I invite you to Utube Oscar Peterson "A little Jazz Exercise" which is a couple of minutes of jaw dropping , mind numbing greatness.Of course, I'm 66 now so it's all relative to your age and experiences in life.

With a crowd reported to be in excess of 200,000 I doubt you would have done

Koss died in March '76. I'm pretty the only time Koss played the Students Union was with John Martyn, when he use to come out to play three or four numbers with Martyn on his 'Sunday's Child tour, which I believe was in the first half of 1975. Is this what you are alluding to?

Spedger, who am I to argue with your very sound judgement. And that goes for bands 2, early 3 and 4.
