I have seen literally hundreds and hundreds of live bands from T.Rex in Cardiff Capitol in June '72 onwards, and I would definitely put Queen bottom of the pile as far as live entertainment went. The most over-rated band in the history of rocknfeckinroll. No band comes close, well Oasis maybe? Perhaps the worst concert I ever went to was seeing the great Paul Rodgers fronting the band at the CIA. How this man who has fronted two of the greatest bands of all time in Free and Bad Company, reduced to singing for Queen, was enough to make any grown man cry. Still he had an expensive divorce to pay for, Queen offered him the gig and he took it. Sad, very sad. As for hearing Brian May widdely widdley w@nk w@nk through Koss's solos with none of the emotion, passion and dexterity that Koss had, was a sheer effrontery to my ears.

Just looked it up, Queen played Cardiff Castle on 10/9/76. I knew it was that year because I was working in Cardiff Magistrates Court at the time and got to hear them rehearsing all of the Friday afternoon - it probably partly explains why I think Queen are so over rated.

Can’t remember what the weather was like that day, but, especially inthat year, it would have been very unlucky for Cardiff to have two wash outs that summer after what happened with the Bob Marley concert at Ninian Park.

It was, we got soaked through watching Manfred Mann’s Earth Band. The bin bags we had on couldn’t take no more, so we gave Queen a miss, the rain was ridiculous.

Queen were a very good , tight rock band in their prime before they went all euro camp

That concert at the Hammersmith odeon , 1976 , is great

News Of The World , Day At The Races great rock music , no messing about

But as they got bigger they dropped the riffing and turned poncey

I want to break free, kind of magic absolutely dreadful

Like you, me and my girlfriend got absolutely saturated, so much so that I ended up peeling my pound notes apart to pay for the taxi home. Missing Queen was a a very sound decision.

Both the 10cc and Queen gigs were played during a deluge, what you would expect from the wettest city in the UK. The scorching summer of 1976 was basically from June till the end of August, so by the time of the Queen gig, normal weather had been resumed.

Best band I ever saw live was The Jess Roden Band - anyone seen them? or heard of them?

Yes mate, saw them support Roxy Music at the Capital Theatre in September '74. Best band of the evening!
