I'm happy to go above 15k for a permanent, but it needs to be someone who is hitting their peak or in it. Wintle was great last season, but unlike someone like Bagan, I don't know how much room there is to grow and if his performances would translate to week-in, week-out in the Championship. I think the length of the contract might have been the bigger issue than the pay.
Don't you need to know our budget to be happy with what the club looks to spend
I don't if its true but apparently Wintle was looking for £15kpw and a longish contract from us and we were not prepared to pay him that. If Plymouth are interested would they pay him £15kpw?
Player of the season, and player's player of the season, wasn't he? You could imagine him and his agent thinking they were in a position of strength and that they could get a good deal?
It will be interesting to see how much higher in standard we can get. Agree with others, it's a key position, in the centre of the spine and pitch.
When I think back to how Leicester changed so quickly, it was the spine of Drinkwater, Kante, Huth, Wes Morgan, Schmeichel, and Vardy.
