England Lions chased down 152 to win their first one day match against the Pakistan Shaheens earlier today. They got 154-1 in 24.2 overs with Asa Tribe (who opened) getting 52 not out.

The Lions game in the UAE was called off today and with the chaos in the region it's hard to imagine they'll play again. Hopefully they can make their way home safely as soon as possible.

Tribe and Kellaway both confirmed for the Welsh Fire (Tribe went for 70k and Kellaway for 37.5k for anyone who cares).

Mason Crane will also play for London Spirit (31k) having been with the Fire for the previous editions.

In general, hard to say it it was a successful auction for the Fire. Jordan Cox was definitely a coup as 5 other teams were in for him, and I'm sure Joe Root will be excited to finally spend a summer in Cardiff with his brother. I do think they did their best business in the pre-auction though.

I think they are probably a quick bowler light.

Charles Dagwood on Sky were suggesting they went for Riley Meredith who did well for them last season.as their final overseas pick.but the went for Matthew Shirt instead who is a good batsman and decent spinner.

However with Chris Woakes being part of the squad they could be in trouble if he breaks down. Particularly after the halfway stage when they cannot get a replacement.

Their top 5 or 6 batting look pretty formidable though, and if AsaTribe and Kellaway continue their development they will have strong batting reserves as well.

The best teenager prospect I’ve ever seen play for Glamorgan retires - think his career ended up as a a leading example of what bad coaching can “achieve”. Hope he has a happy retirement- he comes over as a good bloke and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in some sort of off field role with Glamorgan in the future.

Glamorgan seam bowler James Harris retires from cricket with immediate effect with the new season under a fortnight away.

He still ended up having a good career though. Presumably he wasn't offered a new deal with Glammy.

Does seem a bit odd packing it all in with immediate effect on the eve of the season starting and after pre-season training.

Yep. You would have thought he would have retired at the end of last season. I hope we strengthen over the next couple of weeks. The bowling looks a bit light to me

Maybe the intention was to have one last season, but there was a realisation in pre season training that he no longer had the desire and,or general fitness to do himself justice?

The positive spin would be to speculate that Harrisknew something we don’t yet and he realised that he had little chance of playing with the depth we were going to have in our seam bowling - I agree with Pearcey, we need at least one more seamer because I could see James Harris playing quite often with the attack as it stands currently and our four day batting is weaker than it was last season at the moment.

As you say, that’s the positive spin……..
