Sadly a large number of people think Boris and worse Farage are men of the people kick the establishment type figures. Theyve played up to the working classes and people have fallen for it.

The result is the shambles we are in now.

Where I live the bus service is now limited. Why? because theres a shortage of drivers as drivers have left to go HGV.

Id never vote Tory but the sad reality is we are stuck with them and we desperately need some sort of ability on the front benches with a new leader.

Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I think I detect less use of "Boris" and more of Johnson as he becomes more unpopular - maybe what people decide to call him is as a reliable a barometer as any when it comes to his popularity level?

This looks like a few switchers from con, a lot of switchers from labour but the majority of the Tory vote spending election day watching repeats of homes under the hammer with their fingers in their ears. Typically shit by-election turnout despite the high profile. I really can't see this holding at the next general election. Having said that, the Tories never dreamed they would lose by that amount, nobody did. Last night after polls closed the Tories shortened to 1/2 on Betfair, weird market.

Yes huge numbers of tories stayed away from the look of things. All the sleaze must have made them pretty unpalatable to some voters.

In hard numbers the tory and labour votes were both about a third of what they were at the last election, and the lib dems increased their votes by more than 3 times. Some will be Labour tactical voters but there must be some Tories switching sides as well.

It'll almost certainly go back to Tory at the next election, but this was about giving the current lot a bloody nose.

Whatever happens come General Election time it's a safe bet this seat will return to the Tories but of course in the greater scheme of things it's not really important. If the electoral swing maintains throughout the country then red wall seats will return to Labour and some blue wall seats will topple.

For us anti-Tories this is still a wonderful result because it places the Tories on the defensive and they have two years to try their best to ensure there are no more slip ups on their behalf. I would suggest that's a very tall order and Labour must ensure they maintain the pressure on the Tories consistently.
