Let’s see if Watters reacts how Davies did. I think we all agree we need more from Watters if he’s to stay here long term so let’s push him.

I recorded the game last night and have just watched the key incidents, Sky's analysis of them, Morison's post-match interview and the guests' reaction to it (Jay Bothroyd and Sol Bamba were in the studio).

As Cyclops says above, a couple of the pundits described the Watters substitution as an emotional decision. The cameras perfectly captured Morison throwing his arms in the air and berating Watters for not closing down the keeper quickly enough, and then immediately turning around and signalling to Hugill to get himself ready. They also showed Morison having a bit of a chip at Watters as he came off.

Watters really did look distraught. Credit to Marlon Pack for going over and consoling him, that was a decent thing to do.

My feeling watching the game last night was that the substitution could certainly have waited until half-time and it was something of a petulant move by the manager. It seemed unnecessary to make a public show of Watters in that manner and all of the pundits (Danny Gabbidon, Bothroyd and Bamba) seemed to hold similar views.

As for Morison's post-match interview, to be honest I didn't think it was quite as bad as it seemed when I was reading the words on here this morning. Of course, it would have been easy enough to be kinder to the player and to say something different, and perhaps that would have been more professional, but I didn't think the manner in which the words were delivered was as scathing as I thought it might be.

Afterwards, you could see the ex-City players were a bit uncomfortable about the interview. Bamba made the point several times that Morison treads a fine line when he says these things about players and he needs to be careful or his words could end up doing more harm than good. It was interesting to hear that from someone as experienced and well-respected as Bamba.

Whatever our feelings about Morison are, one thing's for sure - he certainly gives us plenty of talking points.

I was thinking about Dave Jones earlier - my memory (which could be wrong) was that he was pretty popular to begin with, but as time wore on he seemed to irritate people more and more by regularly moaning about various things in his press conferences and getting into spats with the local journalists.

I think in the case of Slade and to a lesser degree in the case of McCarthy, many fans were unhappy about their appointments in the first place. As for Warnock, he seemed very popular for most of his time here, although there were always those who could see through his 'my kind of club, my kind of people' bullshit as he says the same thing everywhere he goes.

Ha ok, but that’s not what you've said so far. Morison is going to rub players up the wrong way and he’s so think skinned it is unreal. We’ll have to get used to it but it doesn’t mean Morison is always right

Morison is ruthless. And outspoken. No doubt about that. But I think he's fair. If he sees a problem, he deals with it sooner rather than later. Why give a player 45 minutes if it's obviously not working? He seems very analytical and I get the feeling he takes time to explain to the players what he's thinking. He criticized Joel Bagen for not being bold enough going forward and got a MOM display from him. And gave him credit for it. I think Morison is the most exciting thing to happen to the City in some time. I also think that if he had a Welsh accent this forum's attitude toward him would be very different. He's saved our season. We're in playoff form. He's made the best loan signings I can remember. Let's give the guy some credit.

Actually over the last five games we’re in automatic promotion form, four wins and a defeat, just behind Fulham’s four wins and a draw. Pretty impressive by anyone’s standard albeit over a short period.

As Sol Bamba says there is the issue of player welfare here too. People can say they get paid good money but that doesn’t mean they are immune from issues and feelings of other young people their age.

His approach is on a very thin edge between motivating and bullying. He needs to be careful.

I don't think anyone is questioning the results over the short term

But ruthless to me is playing with fire. He may overstep the mark, be consistently ruthless without cause, he may unsettle too many who require a arm around the shoulder more than a shouting.

                            Risky

Agree with all of that. But it doesn't make it clever to stick the boot in to a player he's already humiliated. I've no issue with the substitution itself, in fact it's good to see a manager unafraid to do that.

I think Craig Bellamy and Aaron Ramsey might just edge out these recent loans, possibly even Eddie Newton from Chelsea?
They are however very good loan signings and Morison should be rightly applauded for this
