I do wonder if it's just because he's local and welsh that everyone rates him so highly.

He may well come good and turn into a fantastic player, who knows? I'm only going on what i have seen. I've credited him on what he's good at, or what i believe he's good at, and given my opinion on what i think he is poor at. The posters on here who believe he should be playing regularly never seem to pick up up on Colwill's all round game, they swerve it for whatever reason.

Most football fans love a player who can pick the ball up and attack the last 3rd of the pitch, just as we love a player who can go past someone with ease, its exciting

You may well be right about him, however I still think he will come good and grow into the real number 10, were so desperate for.
He can create and take the ball forward, my attitude is we should concentrate on the things he can do very well, and not concern ourselves with the stuff he cant do.
We dont have anyone else who can play that role effectively as Sawyers has been a major disappointment for me.
Colwill needs to start and be given a good run of 6-8 games to show what he can do.
We've got plenty of others who can do the tackling for him

I think most recognise that his work ethic isn't great, he's not that good defensively, but I'm more interested in what he brings to the team than what he doesn't, we have plenty of players in that side who are in there because they're functional, hard working players, I wouldn't mind a little flair.

Not to say he shouldn't work hard, he should, but I find a lot of his detractors gloss over his ability as if the players being picked ahead of him bring his skillset, they don't. There's very little flair or skill in that side, and considering goals are an issue for us I think we'd be mad not to pick a player who has shown he can create and score. The kid's clearly a talent, he's impressed at international level as well as in the Championship, he's shown his ability against good international sides in the Nations League so I find the idea of playing Andy Rinomhota as our most advanced midfielder whilst Colwill is on the bench to be a little odd

Good post. My problem is that i think that he is very poor at the 'other stuff' which means that he is going to have to be absolutely fantastic at the thing he is good at. That's a big gamble in my opinion, unless he improves.

                      Re: Colwll and Davies

If Colwill has grown as much as the club says he has, isn’t it reasonable to believe he would have got stronger over the past few months? Given that he’s played so little football this season, surely any criticisms of him in this thread have to be based on opinions from last season, so do they all still apply? I honestly can’t give an opinion on Colwill this season because I don’t have enough to base one on - what I do know is that we badly need the sort of player he was at times last season.

                        Re: Colwll and Davies

Athletically Rubes isn't the prettiest on the eye, he is gangly and weak in his young frame. Davies is smaller, far more compact, and athletically mature. So far in his fledgling career, he has barely looked prolific but the championship is probably not the best place for your first professional season he'll learn a load from it.

I think the senior Wales pro's have a majority say in the Wales team and Colwell was sent on, they see him in training and must think he has something. Davies was already ahead of Harris in the pecking order last year as a wide forward and i think he'll grab the spot again as soon as he is fit.

We need an experienced practical manager who can see how we can exploit what Rubin is good at and hide what he isn't. I am not sure we have that.

I would go back to a back three 2 DMs, 2 WB's with Robinson and Davies up top with Colwell just behind them

A run of games from the start is what Colwill needs. It’s the only way he’s ever going to fulfil any potential he may have. Bringing him on like some sort of messiah with ten minutes to go is never going to be the answer. He’s old enough and big enough now (9ft 3” apparently) to see if he sinks or swims.
