I agree with you but that just makes it a hot potatoe with no accountability. Government still needs to legally or otherwise protect the people who work in care homes from the poor decision making of their employers.

Pointing out the obvious - except to you - that this is orchestrated from within the cabinet. I've little doubt Gove is settling scores.

The fact the Times article has been comprehensively debunked, as has an FT one is also interesting. Newspaper industry dying on arse, looking for headlines, TV media full on bozos like Peston...

We're at the stage where media muppets and plebs claim to know more of the medical side than CMO, deputy CMO et al.
Government responses to damning newspaper stories have a distinct whiff of Cummings & are achingly long but they should of course be read. Their primary purpose, though, is not to establish truth but to give the blindly faithful something to wave about. That’s what Cummings does - https://twitter.com/mrjamesob
Think it's fair to have a read and see the claims and counter claims: https://healthmedia.blog.gov.uk/2020...sight-article/

Hopefully an independent report is also looking into it so we have clearer idea what is going on. Meanwhile this:

Spoken to lots of NHS staff this wkend about PPE. Some trusts in a good place, some in a v bad one. One theme though is that most have no confidence in Public Health England’s PPE advice: they think it’s being chopped and changed according to supply (or lack thereof),not science - https://twitter.com/lewis_goodall/st...64173833195528

You're quite right. My sister-in-law who spent 30+ yrs in the NHS and then in the Care Industry says exactly the same. It's always been their responsibility for such matters but now they see the opportunity for a bit of free PPE instead of forking it out themselves. There are 22,000 care homes in the UK. How the hell they expect the Govt. to get PPE to all those is a mystery

You can carry that to every person working in every job in the country. But if the government passed legislation to say these care homes should keep this stuff and now they still had insufficient people would still die and the governmet would still be getting the blame for not having sufficient to cover the care homes failure. If a construction company failed to give a worker the correct PPE and he died would you blame the government for not having given it to him instead?

The real point about PPE in care homes is that it is to protect the people who work there not the inmates. (Sorry can't think of the appropriate word) so they woud still be dying anyway.

              What utter crap.

I've seen Labour supporters claiming Gordon Brown chaired COBRA during foot and mouth, completely ignoring the fact that was 2001, Brown PM 2007-10.

I've seen Labour activists claiming no PPE, their own Trust saying otherwise. Doesn't mean there aren't shortages in some Trusts but media portraying it as every Trust.

I've seen Ian Lavery saying this is a great opportunity for Labour to campaign.

I've seen Labour supporters abusing CMO, deputy CMO - including misogyny.

Are the government making mistakes, probably, every government almost certainly is in an unprecedented modern event.

As for the Times, since December they've been more and more anti-Johnson. Not a fan of his, didn't vote for him as leader, but like it or not, he's PM. I suspect it's been co-ordinated and I suspect it's by a cabinet minister in particular Gove. Oh look, I've criticised a Tory there. There's in-fighting within Tories, not to the extent there is within Labour but I've little doubt some are actively briefing against the government. That briefing isn't just damaging the government as a whole, but also causing CMO, deputy CMO et al to get a lot of undeserved crap.

As for the media in general, the press conferences have been crap. Why? Because journos keep asking the same questions having been given the answer by the medical experts seconds before. Media are continually looking for a "gotcha", certain media people like Peston looking after own brand first - ie when he was schooled by deputy CMO and then played the victim on twitter.

The lady on yesterday's briefing wasn't 'avin' any of it. she fronted a few of the Journalists, actually implying its abouty time they stopped trying to score points and started asking important questions.

                  It's about time.

One of the nurses / activists was twitter user "cakeydoll", who now seems to be deleting tweets left, right and center.

The nurse claiming her NHS Trust had no PPE seems to have been handing out NHS caliber PPE to local volunteers. I do hope she's not been stealing the "non-existent" PPR from her Trust?

And before usual suspects whine, ANY NHS staff stealing PPE either for their family or others are vermin irrespective of political persuasion.

Honest question, who would you recommend to support who have not already shown themselves to be useless?

What if the "rivals" are slavishly adherent to a political theory that you don't believe in.

this is the most right wing tory cabinet in living memory, it is not surprising that they are going to attract criticism, just like a verl left labour government would

You don't need to support anyone, when en election comes around you vote for the party that has the whole countries best interests in their manifesto. You can even criticise the party you vote for, their is no need for unshakable loyalty.

It's why I don't get why when someone criticises the current government people respond with "but labour" so what?

Do you think someone criticising the current government for making mistakes is only doing so to "blast the rivals"?
