None of these things make an enormous difference in themselves - not BLM, not tearing down statues, not anti-racism demonstrations, not Kick It Out, not taking the knee, etc. But all of them demonstrate a steady societal shift and all of them annoy people like you, so they all have value.

It recognises the heinous act of the slavery in relatively recent history and which obviously still has an impact on the black community.
Perhaps you go on a message board that is predominantly used by the black community ask them if it has achieved anything.
If you do, please post a link the exchanges as it would be of enormous interest.

I was seeing this woman for a few weeks over the summer and when it got onto the subject of politics it was clear she was as right wing as they came , I sussed her out , said my goodbyes and she called me woke and a snowflake over the Internet.

Nice looking but not a lot going on upstairs and was rattling around was far right

Clearly you're not aware the Barbary pirates were still enslaving Europeans on behalf of the Ottomans after Wilberforce pushed to make slavery illegal.

Slacery, in recent times is not just a white suppressing black thing. In fact, in theUK context, slavery is very much an African suppressing a European thing.

                    Who knew?

Now I know you're trolling. You're intelligent enough to know "woke"is a term coined and used by the black American community, becoming a popular term between the 1930s and 1960s.

Since then its become part of the vernacular of many left wing activists.

So rather than educate yourself by asking the opinions of those who still feel aggrieved regarding the subject matter in question you choose to make an assumption about my knowledge of history whilst trying to convey your usual air of superiority and indulging in a bit of irrelevant 'whataboutery'. That's pretty feeble, it has to be said.

                            No.

I'm saying that slavery has affected us all, not just the black community (which in the UK would have seen members of this community having very little chance of being descended from slaves unless they were migrants from the Windies).

All throughout history man has always looked to enslave his fellow man, its not unique to Europeans and Africans.

If you understand the Barbary pirates you'll be aware of the impact they had on the USA and that nation's own struggle with the institution of slavery. Africans enslaving Europeans had quite a significant impact on US policy towards its own enslaved peoples ergo a direct impact on todays issues faced by black Americans.

Is this another example of you inventing, twisting and stretching historical facts beyond snapping point to 'win' an agument?

Of course slavery has been part of many different societies across the globe for millennia, from China to the Middle East, Africa and the Americas - but the Atlantic Slave Trade was on a different scale. To argue that 'black on white' slavery by north African corsairs - which was mostly black on black with a smattering of European slavers also working from the Barbary Coast - was a major factor in ending American slavery is perverse. It was a factor in the formation of the early American navy (to protect trans-Atlantic shipping) but barely registers in the fight against US slavery compared to slave revolts, the abolitionist movement and economic sanctions.

Who said the Barbary wars ended American slavery?

Can I suggest you go back and read once again what I wrote because at no point have I suggested anything remotely like what you are suggesting.

Then we can pick this up when you are better informed.

Edit: one other thing, the corsairs favoured white Europeans as these brought a higher price in the Muslim markets of North Africa and the Middle East. Your claim that the Barbary pirates preferred fellow Africans is just not true
