    Re: Bellamy out

I’d be interested to see us against Italy away. Would be one of the great nights in our history if we were to do it. If we got beat then so be it.

Promised I wouldn’t go back after 2003 but time is a healer

I just don’t think Wales can cope when a number of key players are missing. Currently they are without Kieffer Moore, Harry Wilson, Connor Roberts (who I think is a better player than many give him credit for), Wes Burns, Chris Mepham, Ben Cabango and Ben Davies, who was a Premier League regular this time last year but now looks in serious decline.

There was also Joe Allen, who was generally used as a sub but was no doubt influential behind the scenes.

Wales have always struggled for strength in depth. Currently, the squad isn’t that great even when everyone is fit. These things go in cycles. In my opinion, while a couple of the recent performances have been worse than they should have been, the present crop of Welsh internationals are just not that good.

Good article here about Norway's recent success:

Generational goalgetter Erling Haaland will get a crack at his first major tournament next summer, after leading Norway to the World Cup.

In it, the Norwegian journalist references the Welsh team of 2016. These days, we don't have a Bale or a Ramsey, and if we're being honest we don't have players like Williams, Ledley or Allen either, while Davies is a shadow of then player he was. The cupboard is pretty bare at present.

Agree completely. Bellamy hasnÂ’t been perfect (if he had been then he wouldnÂ’t be at Wales for very long) but people need a reality check of the level of our squad. ThatÂ’s not little old wales mentality itÂ’s just the reality.

Theres also the fact weÂ’ve lost 2 competitive games in 13 under Bellamy and won the Nations League group under him. The FAW barely have any money to spend on sacking him or appointing a new manager with any real credibility, it really is a ludicrous idea to even hint at replacing him tbh.

            Re: Bellamy out

We had a team with one generationally world class talent in Bale and another world class talent in Ramsey, backed up by a squad of very good players who had come through the ranks together. Now we have a number of players who a few years ago me maybe thought would become better than they are - Rodon, Ampadu, Daniel James, Brennan Johnson, David Brooks, Neco Williams. They're all having decent careers but maybe haven't quite hit the unrealistic heights we'd hoped, and the backup options are of a lower level.

I think our best case is to build a very solid team that qualifies regularly, like Switzerland or Denmark for example. Greater than the sum of its parts. At the beginning of Bellamy's tenure it looked like we were going that way and although we don't look very convincing at the minute I think it's still an achievable goal. With JJ and Ampadu out for North Macedonia I think we'll lose that one but in the playoffs with a full strength team out we're definitely in the mix. Just don't start Harris upfront and leave Brennan Johnson on the bench, and start Brooks instead of Daniel James.

              Re: Bellamy out

A lot is being written here, fairly, about the quality of our players and lack of depth. That lack of quality and depth would be the same for any new manager and so what you’re really saying is that you believe Bellamy is using the wrong tactics and or not motivating the players to give enough.

Bale just wasn't world class, he was a top 5 player in the world at one point. Agree with what you're saying though.

So, how many of the current team would get in the 2016 side? Neco Williams and Harry Wilson definites for me, I’d also have Ampadu and I’d go for one of Brennan Johnson or Kieffer Moore up front. Rodon in front of Chester? Not for me.

                      Re: Bellamy out

Don't like Bellamy at all but lets but honest, our squad is average at best. Few injuries and it's littered with 3rd division players.

There's an argument he's done well to even get this lot in a position to get 2nd.

You say that, but look at North Macedonia's squad, hardly world beaters themselves

I think there's a strange thing where we over rate both our own players and the general standard of international football, outside of the top sides and 1 or 2 others in pot 2 its really not great and many would kill to have 11 players in the Premier League as we do

Williams gets in over Taylor, Roberts over Gunter probably (though I think Gunter was more reliable for Wales), you could certainly argue for Rodon/Ampadu over Chester/Ledley and definitely Moore or Johnson up top

I don't see who Wilson comes in for, definitely not Bale or Ramsey surely?

I think that the question should be, What would this team under Bellamy look like if Gareth Bale was in it and at his peak. He wasn't just brilliant, he raised other players games in my opinion. Having a player like that in your squad gives everyone belief and confidence. Bale was a serial winner physically and mentally, i don't think that we've ever had a player like him, in fact most teams don't.

At the moment, Italy would probably beat us.

John Charles was probably the nearest to Bale we’ve had as an influential player.
