And announced by the tories on Twitter - going to be difficult to blame the naughty media for this one!

I'm still baffled as to what it was exactly in the BBC report I posted a link to which could qualify as "hysterical". It contained quotes from the medical officers from each of the home countries who agreed upon the decision, some from Government Ministers and a confirmation that the new policy was in line with World Health Organisation advice. As someone who agrees with the decision taken, I'm not taking an anti Tory position here and I note that Boris Johnson warned earlier this week that we were far from "out of the woods" yet when it came to the virus and yet it seems that it is just the "hysterical" media that is inflicting these new restrictions on some areas of England .

The good thing about how the English Government have handled this is that they have come out of lockdown in a well constructed way. Opening schools, pubs, shops, gyms, travel abroad, tourists into the UK (no testing at airports, that would be crazy) and reducing the distancing to 1m (which effectively means nothing for many of us who can't tell the difference between 1m, 1 foot or 2m). All of these "easing of measures" because "we were beating the virus" were announced more or less daily at the end of June and the start of July. Because of this reasoned approach, the Government can pinpoint the cause of the spike to one of about 10 things.

"Why isn't Drakeford opening up the pubs?" cried our thirsty friends. One bright chap from Smallsville spent an enlightened trip to the far off land of Bishop's Stortford, where cafes were bustling, and pubs were full.

..and they still are. The good doctors and scientists who now run the 6th largest country on a day-to-day basis are delighting in a Government that reacts with remarkable speed to action anything and everything they are guided, nay instructed to do, without question or scrutiny. The increase in testing has identified more 'new cases', Leicester's peak for instance was consistent with a testing regime carried out in late June. But the Scientists [I don't think you can refer to the 'government' at the moment', have vitually banned UK citizens going to holiday destinations that have and infection rate of 1.2% compared to 14.6% in the UK, and had NO recorded cases yesterday. It is truly. totally, utter madness..

It's a fair point. I've long said that cancer kills too many people - we simply have to stop testing for it and get those numbers down. Stupid doctors.

By "6th largest" I assume you are talking about the economy. Which is a bit odd seeing as this is not an economic crisis, but a medical one.

But, in your enlightened madness you have come up with an ingenious plan, a plan which probably would be accepted by the loonies in the Tory party.

If we reduce testing, we will reduce the number of "new cases" (your quotations, not mine). If we reduce testing to 0 then, "new cases" will be at 0 and the whole thing will just go away.

It is truly, totally, utter brilliance.

There is little common sense in opening everything up in a short period of time (as the Government have done, the Welsh and Scottish Governments receive the exact same scientific evidence and interpret it differently to Johnson, but similarly to each other). In doing so, new spikes are oddly being attributed to people gathering at home indoors.

This is no longer allowed. So, instead of John popping into Ben's house to have a chat and a drink, John and Ben are now popping into the pub with hundreds of others, generating tax revenues and, potentially, increasing the chances of a spike.

Now that is truly, totally, utter madness.

It's not very difficult to see where this started to unravel. The Government were, in my opinion, getting it right when they were following the science. However, Cummings got caught acting like the privileged elite he tells us to vote against and, instead of acting, the Government went on singing "It's Good News Week" and distracting the media's attention from an obvious affront to the rules that beaten housewives and single parents had to abide by.

I am quite happy to be living in "Smallsville" at present.

Johnson's briefing is tragically hopeless. There is a spike, but the controls are to stop people socialising in houses, but to socialise in settings where money is spent.

Every time he speaks, we lose clarity. Well, whatever clarity we had remaining.

He's a complete idiot and doesn't know what the feck he's doing.
More experts are coming around to the Swedish model (even if they did really mess up with the homes for the elderly)
People have worked through it and a lot of businesses have survived. Plenty have gone bust of course but it could have been worse.

The rise in new cases in the UK continues, up to almost 900 today when it was around 500 earlier in the month.

saw a video yesterday regarding the use of hydroxychloroquine in treating covid patients in the states . some doctors were claiming that this drug along with a few others is an effective treatment in some cases .It first went out on all social media platforms and is claimed the largest viral video ever on social media yet was pulled off twitter , face book etc when it was getting millions of hits

today the doctor that spear headed this was fired from her job . why can't doctors who treat patients have an opinion and freedom to share there medical views with the world ?

More hysterical media nonsense, needlessly keeping the masses from must visit establishments like ten pin bowling alleys.

Face coverings will be needed in more places, but shielding and workplace advice remain the same.

Pubs open, ten pin bowling alleys closed. I’m sure there’s a reason for it somewhere? Perhaps just to keep Goats happy?
