    They're the same. Apparently.

NB it was £5m, but that doesnt detract from your point.

Edit: actually, they're not the same. The plumber hasn't gone out of his way to set up complex offshore legal structures with the sole aim of disguising his income or capital gains.

Thats some forensic detective work right there.

Zahawi needs to fall on his sword.

A penalty doesn't mean evasion at all. You are correct. The scale of penalty is determined by the nature of the under declaration and the intent behind it

I submitted my return and then woke up one night in a sweat and remembered my error. I worried about it for months after.

P.S. They let me off but then it wasn't GBP 3.7M.
You have an annual allowance for dividends before tax is payable so you were worrying for nothing.

Nadhim Zahawi has not made an 'innocent error' in his tax affairs, head of HMRC has suggested

Jim Harra told Public Accounts Committee that 'there are no penalties for innocent errors'

'If your error was result of carelessness then legislation says a penalty applies'.

Resign now and take the rest of the rotten lot with you.

I always pay by BACS transfer, never cash, and I expect to get a receipt for the payment. I am a pretty good DIY-er so most small jobs get done by myself, hence any bills I get are likely going to be for large/complicated jobs where I need suitably qualified people.

I wonder what the repayment terms were or are they tbc

This really stinks. I'm not entirely sure how he isn't looking at jail time.

Easy, Tories are above the law. That's just for the little people.

Just read the letter from Sunak.

“It is clear that there has been a serious breach of the Ministerial Code

As a result, I have informed you of my decision to remove you from your position in HM Government”

He then goes on to tell us how fantastic he was at his job.

                            You couldn’t make it up.

Oh and whilst I’m at it, Rishi Sunak needs to explain why, if breaking the ministerial code is now a sacking offence, that he chose to reinstate Suella Braverman just days after she was found to have broken it.

I’m really confused. Zahawi had said he did nothing wrong.
