  • Re: Loan Report

I confess that that this post is not about our players on loan but two of our ex-players who met in opposition a few hours ago.
I was at the Walsall v MK Dons game, which was dire for much of the game. There was a great deal of hoofing going on, Aiden Flint being one of the worst offenders - and who came away with the Man of the Match Award in a 0-2 defeat against the so-called 'Dons' featuring Curtis Nelson.
The game was riddled with endless fouls and the ball was hoofed out of play ad infinitum.

Callum Paterson is injured, he'd have livened it up for you. Albert Adomah came on for Walsall. I never knew his middle name was Danquah, that's excellent.

It's funny you've turned up here, you might be interested in this. I mentioned in the Academy thread that our striker, Luke Pearce, has joined IFK Mariehamn in the Finnish League on loan. It's on the Aland Islands, ever been there? It must be remote if you haven't.

Someone went to a Mariehamn game and wrote this report. I've no idea why Luke Pearce has gone there but, by the look of it, the ground has a Leckwith Stadium vibe with a running track and just one stand so he should feel at home when he's playing.

Was hoping Luke would come back to Sligo because God Knows the Bit of Red need a striker so. His mammy is a Sligo girl too. I watched him play the last days he was here on LOITV . He looked a mile better than most of the players there. Ollie Denham still with them and playing well enough but slowly coming down in standard. At least The Showgrounds have 2 stands on the sides , but you can get a grand salad burger and a cup of tea on the car park end.

Adomah looked good when he came on.
As for the Åland Islands I can't say that I knew where they were before I used Google a few minutes ago.
By the way, Iike Accrington Stanley that I visited earlier in the season, Walsall had more conducive areas for fans to have a drink in than is the case at the CCS. The warehouse-like structure about 50 yards from the stadium itself was only spoiled by a deafening 'karaoke-type' singer whose volume was absolutely deafening and who was swanning around as if she owned the place whilst being more of a major irritant.
(Draught ale would have been appreciated as well).
It was curious to see a modern ground (built in 1990) with supports obstructing the view for spectators though.

An amazing finish to Yeovil's game with Sutton tonight. Dakarai Mafico and Troy Perrett were brought on at 1-1 with half an hour to go but Sutton soon scored and held a 2-1 lead going into injury time. Yeovil equalised in the 93rd minute and then were given a penalty soon after. They'd missed one earlier in the game and with the regular taker off there may have been some debate about who would take it. Troy Perrett takes them for our u-21s but it was given to the last sub, Brett McGiven, who buried it for a crucial win that takes Yeovil eight points clear of the relegation zone. With a winnable FA Trophy quarter-final coming up on Saturday things are looking up for them after a poor recent run.

A new manager at Eastleigh but no pitch time for Luey Giles as they also won their game in injury-time. They beat Truro 2-1, with Luke Jephcott getting Truro's goal.

No squad place for Michael Reindorf at Tamworth last night, or Will Spiers for Merthyr (I assume he's injured) but Jake Dennis made some good saves as Merthyr beat the bottom club, Leamington, 2-1 in a game that ended with a mass brawl in front of the dug-outs.

Luke Pearce will have to wait for his debut for IFK Mariehamn as their League Cup game with FC Lahti was moved to next week. If anyone's planning to go out and watch Mariehamn play then it might be worth knowing that, although they play in the Finnish league and the Aland Islands are under Finnish sovereignty, the local language is Swedish. If you use a Finnish phrase book you'll get some funny looks and might get called a rovhatt (that's Swedish for arse hat).

I've also been on Google - surprised to see that the Aland islands only have a population of 30,000. That would be like if Pontypridd became autonymous.

There's a saying that it's better to have bad news that's true than good news we made up. Hopefully that's right, this thread is doomed otherwise.

Yeovil threw away the chance of Cup glory this afternoon by getting beaten on penalties by Southport in the quarter finals of the FA Trophy. They were 1-0 up with two minutes of normal time left but were inviting pressure and the equaliser felt inevitable. Dakarai Mafico started further forward today, he was subbed for Troy Perrett just after the hour mark, and picked up a yellow card for preventing a quick free kick. Nothing against Mafico, of course, but good. It annoys me when players do that and it should be a sin-bin offence, except football hasn't got that. Personally, I'd bring in a rule where the player has to suck the referee's socks as a punishment, that would soon stop it.

Not much else happening. No pitch time for Luey Giles or Michael Reindorf, no squad place for Tanatswa Nyakuhwa or Will Spiers. Kion Etete got on for St Mirren, in the fifth minute of injury time, but Jesper Daland was suspended and Roko Simic's Karlsruher don't play till tomorrow.

Jake Dennis made some good saves for Merthyr but they lost at home, Luke Armstrong's Penybont didn't have a game and Ewan Griffiths' Cardiff Met had their game called off last night because of a floodlight failure. Come on guys, there's a hockey pitch on campus. Use your imaginations.

Luke Pearce is up and running at IFK Mariehamn as they drew 1-1 at home to IK Sleipner in a friendly. You were probably all following the game this afternoon so I won't bore you with every detail but Pearce came on at half time, had one header saved, a shot blocked and set up a chance for the winner in injury time but that was also blocked. Mariehamn used 19 players and there was a crowd of 173 so, by my reckoning, the entire local population either played or watched.

                          Thanks all.

Just to round off the weekend's action, Roko Simic started for Karlsruher today as they won 3-1 away from home. I saw some rumours recently that he was going to be frozen out there because Karlsruher didn't want to trigger an obligation to buy once he reached a certain number of appearances but that's two starts in a row for him now.

Not a great season for him there, only nine starts (with ten sub appearances) and three goals but he hasn't been out of the match day squad all season so it hasn't been a total washout either.

I have a feeling that Mr Loramski has been involved in journalism at some stage of his career, so good and witty are his posts. If not, it's never to late. I'd love to see him writing for Fails Online, he would bring the football reporting up a notch or twenty, and actually make it worthwhile reading.

I wonder what the obligation to buy level is as surely having played in 19 games would meet that requirement
Next quesion - does daaland have anything similiar?
