Yeah this always happens, we saw it with the Tories as well. Things that are actually not bad get thrown into the outrage pot, although I appreciate everybody has a different line in the sand. For instance, the football was probably alright for me, but some guy buying you a new wardrobe when you are a millionaire seems sus.

An £18M flat not being lived in and one of the many properties owned by a Labour Lord and 'given for free' is a massive problem within the Labour Party and any political party for that matter. It's immoral on so many levels imo. Starmer is quite able to rent his own property for his son to study in. It's a luxury. Remember, this is the man who is expecting disabled, older people in the 60s to 'find a job'. All of this is connected. It cannot be ignored or glossed over. It's an entitled, very privileged life and politicians, as public servants, should not be accepting any free services, gifts etc. Employees in public sector jobs are not allowed to do so.

Peer gave Keir Starmer more clothes worth £16,000, declared as money for private office.

Worth noting that Lord Alli had a Downing Street pass shortly after the election.

It is a bit weird isn't it? I entirely agree that it's important that political leaders look good (Boris was often criticised for looking unkempt remember) but someone on a salary of £25k can look good. You really don't need gifts of £16,000 on clothes, and it just amazes me that they accept it and think it's normal and won't come back to look really bad.

I disagree, I see nothing wrong with this instance, but the story of another £16k’s worth of clothing is indefensible- as Starmer, Reeves and Raynor have admitted by saying they would not accept any more such offers.

That welsh secretary Jo Stephens gets on my nerves

Most of the cabinet seem absolutely hopeless

                Wes Streeting seems OK

It seems to be a particular problem with politicians with figures out today showing eye watering amounts given to them in freebies in the last 10 years. The givers obviously want something in return, the people with the wealth to be this ‘generous’ aren’t usually the sort to be kind hearted.

Hopefully Rosie Duffield is the first of many to be inspired by this young man.

I'm concerned that with Starmer in charge, the Labour Party are sleepwalking into obliteration by Reform and the horror of a far right government in 5 years time. It's been an horrendously bad start for Labour and this month's budget could be the cherry on the icing of a pretty sh*tty cake served up since the election.

The test of a good policy seems to be if the telegraph disagrees with it. I keep seeing telegraph articles on Reddit and my news feed on Google that are scaremongering against exactly the kind of stuff that should be in the budget. Part of the problem we have a press that is firmly against anything changing positively for working people, so even if they get it right it will be spun as a disaster.

Just read the following comment BTL of today's Marina Hyde piece in the G. I was going to write something myself but this is perfect imo. It's by someone called redche66:

Is anyone really surprised? Really surprised? Starmer was terrible as opposition leader. Frankly , he didn't oppose. Voted with the government or abstained. Have we forgotten? He made it quite clear who he was with his actions. Lied, backtracked, u-turned. Purged the party of any dissent as did Johnson. Left the party with nothing but sycophants, as did Johnson. As for this mythical popularity with the voters. Did no-one read BTL before the election? The most common term was "I'll hold my nose and vote Labour to get rid of the Tories". The lowest GE turnout in history, almost half didn't vote. Labour got a massive majority on the votes of 1 in 5 of the eligible electorate. There was no honeymoon because it was a shotgun wedding. Things ain't gonna get better. Not for us anyway. I'm sure the likes of Starmer, Streeting, Reeves, McSweeney, Lammy and the rest will do just fine, thank you very much. People were pissed, are pissed and will continue to be.

                                Here's the actual article:

Keir Starmer is an unforced error machine – have they tried turning him off and on again?

After fewer than 100 days, it’s hard to think of anyone who has squandered so much electoral capital so quickly for so little, says Guardian columnist Marina Hyde
