Re: Reform , Ready To Rule , BBC 2 Tonight
The main problem is that the political class dare not explain to people who earn at or below the median wage that they aren't really paying any tax and that their problems are caused by 30-40 years of terrible housing + other (privatising of needs, not wants) policy.
Almost every problem for your average worker is caused by massively inflated living costs not tax and the main one (housing) has been cheered on by governments, all of media + a lot of the population for years and years as a sign of success. Thankfully (lol) we have basically reached a point where, despite 10 years of government intervention to the contrary (policies designed to pump the market), the housing market couldn't actually sustain further real terms increases. But that has left us at a point where young people are staring down the barrel of never being able to afford a secure place to live, nefarious ppl will tell you 'migration is the problem' and 'young people are leaving' and tie those two things together even though the evidence doesn't back it up.
The electorate aren't deplorable, they are delusional though. For instance, telling people that 'the rise in energy bills was caused by increased green levies' still works, even though a 2 minute search will show you the complete opposite.
