I should imagine that people think a diversity of things on this. The context matters and the quick and firm sentencing stopped the disorder spreading further - a good thing.

Some of the sentences seemed a little harsh. The women buying eggs and the woman with the wheelie bin springs to mind. 9 years for trying to set fire to a building with people inside seems appropriate to me. If anything it's soft.

As for whether it's "two tier" or not, we will find out in due course and people will make their own minds up as they will remember these sentences and them being televised etc etc.

The woman buying eggs ? Was she sentenced for buying eggs in a provocative manner ?

The woman pushing a shopping trolley weighted down with bricks towards coppers trying to keep the peace in a riot situation ? I think she got what she deserved
