Because you pretty much defended a government who implemented policies that have created the environment we are seeing now.

      What policies are those then?

Absolutely mental talking about slitting throats, and so many cheering.

Watch it again and tell me how many are cheering at that comment. "So many"? Or maybe around 10 or so?

Stop adding to the hyperbole, James. It makes you come across as part of the problem and not part of the solution.

I said earlier on that we can assume and hope many didn't hear the exact comment.

But there is an elected politician making a public speech about slitting throats. Don't downplay it, please

Where did I downplay the awfulness of what he said?. I specifically didn't.

You tried to suggest that many supported his awful comments. The clip simply doesn't show that.

The truth is important James. Even if it doesn't fit your narrative.

              That's what I said earlier:

"if this is really from an elected councillor that is extraordinary. And the yelping behind..one can only hope and assume they didn't really hear what he said."

If you are interested in the truth, which does indeed matter, it seems a curious place for you to start

So why did you then in a subsequent post state that 'so many cheered' at the comments? Did you change your mind? Read back - you wrote it!

What's your definition of many? You said 10 yourself. How many is many when you are cheering a speech about someone slitting throats?

Have you ever heard of such a thing?

You don't think they should leave him alone and work to address the 'underlying causes'? :sherlock:

No. Although I would suggest the causes behind making him bold enough to say such words in public would be an interesting thing to explore.

                      What do you think?

You know exactly what you are doing here. Squirming out of your 'so many cheering' comment when that clearly misleads.

Anyway. I'll leave others to judge.

Just watched it again. Theres about 20 behind him clearly listening. Others far behind probably listening to another speech. We don't know how many are in front of him.

Of those, around half clap or cheer. As I said, we can hope they didn't fully realize what he said.

But yes, it is absolutely fkn shocking for anyone to clap and cheer an elected councillor talking about slitting throats. For goodness sake Peter, of all the things you can pick on.

It's important James, because as I said in my initial post, hyperbole, exaggeration and ratcheting things up are the last thing that is needed now. That's what you were doing with your post, in my view.

I completely agree with you that ratcheting things up is not needed. There are dozens of examples of that in this thread. As I said, looks to me like 50% who could hear him cheered and clapped (perhaps not fully appreciating what he said). Yes, don't ratchet things up but equally you can't let things like that be normalised without comment

He was surrounded by his supporters. 50% in your view (more in mine) of his own supporters looked dumbfounded. Yet you chose to give the impression that 'so many cheered'. It's important. Misleading commentary needs to be called out.
