It wasn't a binary question. It was an option of one type of rioter versus a great diversity of which there are many interpretations, and you gave yours..which I am far closer to than the views of many on here.

I don't think anything diminishes anything. There was a truly horrific element to it. I'm just interested in understanding it and (like us all) trying to make it not happen in future.

I don't think Tommy Robinson has been summoned and I believe the EDL hasn't existed for a decade or so btw..which does rather suggest that the narrative that has been put out is not as accurate as it could be.

White dude posts pseudo-intellectual article analysing race riots written by white dude in a publication funded by rich white dudes predominantly read by white dudes in Westminster. Meanwhile....BTL in said article it is full of racist bile reinforcing the view that it's white dudes responding to it. Anyone posting anything countering the narrative written by the white dude in the article is shouted and voted down.

The common theme, of course, amongst all the rioters is that they are all racist, violent and frightened. A fear whipped up by the Right Wing elements of a Tory, UK government over 14 years and the predominantly right wing foreign-owned press. But also people on here too.

The likes of trouble-makers like Farage pushing and needling from the comfort of their GB news, million £ salaried jobs and the financed coward Yaxley Lennon from his Aiya Napa sun lounger. But... also people on here. Still stoking it up and trying to position it that the rioters have some form of diverse backgrounds when in fact they follow one, dangerous and violent ideology.

It's a tale as old as time when it comes to ethnicity and race. White dudes know best. Everyone else must know their place. Of course it's not always white dudes that do this. But it is mainly white dudes.

I didn't say Robinson had been summoned, I said that the journalist you quoted also recently wrote an apologia Unherd article interpreting his plans as something out of the Progressives playbook.

No it's not binary. It's asking whether the reality is A or A,B,C,D,E,F or any other combination. You can give any response to the question you like - and you did!

It is an interesting article. Certainly the left generally have occupied the "lock em up and throw away the key" position here and the right more likely to present a series of background issues.

The reason the edl don't exist anymore is because the tossers behind these groups get sussed out or arrested and lie low and set up under another name

EDL become Patriotic Alternative etc etc

They would be still in existence with a constitution , minutes , annual general meetings , conferences etc if they were upfront and legal and decent .....and not underground
