I also saw a Channel 4 feature including video of a gang of teenagers walking casually down a side street in Middlesbrough throwing stones through windows where families were watching television or having a meal. Would Government intervention and “understanding” have changed the mind set of those parents and would it have produced a different reaction from those kids?

I use Twitter mainly to read and post about football and don’t come across the sort of behaviour that the site has a reputation for. However in the past week or so, I’ve gone down the rabbit hole where the “far right” live and the oft used description of “cesspit” doesn’t go far enough. If you want to know what makes people behave like they did since the Southport murders, I don’t think you could do much better than reading stuff like that day after day, hour after hour with no dissenting voices to maybe make you consider what you were saying - obsession is rarely a good thing and it certainly isn’t here.

For me, making the proprietors of sites like Twitter much more responsible for the content they allow would have far more effect than studies into what motivates the worst of the rioters.
            What's my point?

My point was that it is mental to see an elected politician talk about slitting throats and seeing people cheer and applaud that.

You can ask others why they think that's such a controversial thing to mention, but given that it was a major story on the BBC news last night (second item) suggests that it was. I have no idea why you cant simply agree with it?

Maybe if you can't see the issue suggests you are further down the rabbit hole yourself than you think? I dunno.

Either way,y point wasn't remotely complex to understand.

Tears, denials and excuses: a week in court amid far-right riots in England

'It must have been a surreal experience for some at court that day. One Muslim solicitor had two days earlier been helping to protect a mosque. On Tuesday he was defending someone accused of being involved in violence against the police.'

Sir kneel a lot needs to address the underlying issues rather than send out BBC prepared platitudes as this is not going away.

I've been asking the same question of you for the last two days and more, I was daft to think that you might get around to answering it at the fourth or fifth time of asking.

Not sure what I can say to the rest of your message given that I've already said that the Labour councillor deserves everything he gets and have condemned him on at least two occasions on here.

I answered your question yesterday (when I posted the guardian article) and you have replied to me at least three times since!

You asked what my point was and I reiterated it.

                          Can't win!

Oh you do wish this isn’t going away. Where’s the rendezvous today?

Ah the “bleeding obvious” article. One of the few laughable things to come out of this whole affair was seeing the man who was telling people to f*ck off back to France a few months ago saying that it was just a bunch of young lads having one more than they should have letting off steam. I try to avoid whataboutism, but I can’t help wondering if your desire to tackle underlying causes would have been as apparent on here if it all happened back in the spring under a different Government.

My view is that tackling the underlying causes, whatever they’re supposed to be, would have meant that there would have been less hangers on who were stood watching the action, rather than joining in, but the hard core would have reacted exactly as they did over the past ten days. It’s a little bit like those extra few thousand who turn out for City home games against the likes Swansea, Bristol City and Leeds - I’m not saying that they’re all there because of the chance of a scrap, but a lot of them are.

The underlying cause of the violence we saw after the Southport murders was, for me, the fact that there are always racists who are prepared to answer a call to action from the type of grifters and rabble rousers who should also be receiving a visit from the police in the next few days - there’s growing evidence that the original, deliberate, misidentification of the murderer did not come from the sort of downtrodden, working class folk in need of more understanding that you’re now concerned about, it was from individuals, who are certainly not short of a bob or two, out to exploit them.

from what I can see a lot of it is going away already, some of it for 3 years, some for 18 months, some for longer, they're sending more of it away every day, it's wonderful
