The article clearly talked about the security guards role. If they hadnt used his image the same idiots would have moaned the daily mail were ignoring him cos of his race.

Here's another article on the guy in question.

That's all they can come up with as an answer

It's like losing thirty nil and one of them saying we should have had a corner the ref missed it, then when you look at the VAR it wasn't even a corner.

I'm sure space will be found. But I'm glad I'm not the one with the job of finding these spaces.

Here's the original article in the daily mail. Note the headline and the lack of prominence of the security guard and the small photo caption as opposed to proper leader header.

The Metropolitan Police said a man, 32, thought to be the only suspect, had been arrested after the attack in the tourist hotspot in broad daylight on Monday.

The Mail know what it's doing when laying out these pages and slanting the news. They had to run the story later but they've a long history of devious practice and 'bollox' so they deserve to be questioned, ridiculed and disliked in equal measures. There are always those who defend them. It's usually the same individuals.

I am no fan of the vile Daily Mail but just don't see what you see.

The security guard was mentioned in the sixth sentence, the first five sentences detailing the victims, the suspect, the possible motive and the general help from the public before it mentioned one particular individual whose photograph and video are featured very prominently immediately beneath the first photo and before various other photographs -and the first three sentences after the photos consist of his quotes. Two more quotes from him also appear a few lines down.

I see The Mail and slant of story. I understand that we could debate this over and over and I'm not saying I'm correct but I am saying what 'I see'.

Prominence of photo and the wording of captions is very important. There's a film called The Shipping News which has a scene talking about headlines. The Mail chose to put a convoluted (imo) headline together which was very wordy and although the video was embedded it had to be played to fully 'get' the security guard's involvement. You also have to remember that if you a are non-white person reading the Mail, you're reading a paper that for over a decade or more has fuelled hatred toward towards immigrants (who they always portray as non-white).

I'm not saying any of this is other than 'how I see it' in the same way as if I was being asked to write a paper on press bias. I'd have to give different examples. But here's one example. although fictional (I've just made it up) that may have been used in a different paper with different political bias. You might think this stuff is picky or unimportant but I think we have become anaesthetised to racial bias every day.

My fictional headline reads: "Hero Security Guard Abdullah, 29, Rushes to Protect Mother and Daughter from Daylight Knife Attack in Leicester Square"

The Daily Mail has a long-standing record of compiling for ridiculously long headers on their website regardless of the subject matter and you only have to go to today's homepage to confirm as much - and your 'fictional headline' is hardly snappy either - and it doesn't convey that a stabbing took place, which I think is the most important component of the story. All else is a corollory to that.

I'm with you on this, i find it hard seeing it any other way, given the History of The Daily Mail. If it isn't as we both see it, then who is at fault for that?

Mad few posts this is. The articles in question call the guy a hero, yet someone with an agenda posts a clipped photo of it and makes up what it means and people go with it.

As I said earlier. If the Mail hadn't posted his photo the same people would be moaning about it ignoring him. They post his photo (and call him a hero) and they are subtly trying to tell us that he's the culprit.

Seriously guys, the media does need scrutiny, I'm up for that, and we know the Mails general approach to things, but this is chemtrail stuff.

I don't care if this tweet was misleading or not. It doesn't change the fact that the Daily Mail is racist and stirs up hatred on a regular basis.

It doesn't change that particular fact but it doesn't mean that distortion by its detractors shouldn't also be analysed for accuracy too.

I don't know of anyone of fair mind who reads that nonsense
